Job Summary
The Certified Nurse Assistant (C.N.A) assists staff members with and contributes to the implementation of the total resident/patient plan of care, which includes activities of daily living such as eating, dressing, personal care, toileting, education, recreation, and transportation in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of the nursing department.
Responsibilities
- Assists with all resident/patient routine activities of daily living including feeding, bathing, ambulating, skin care, and demonstrates effective listening skills to provide support for resident/patient needs.
- Takes initial vital signs and provides weights to nursing staff in a timely manner, reports changes in vital signs or measurements promptly to the Supervisor/Charge Nurse.
- Follows procedures for Universal Precautions, monitors and records resident/patient intake and output in accordance with unit standards or physician orders.
- Maintains confidentiality of resident/patient related issues, supports resident/patient rights, maintains productive working relationship with healthcare team members, and is a team player, courteous, diplomatic and tactful when interacting with others.
- Provides additional care as directed by the RN/LPN, assist with orientation of patient/resident/family to unit, facility and services, and delivers patient/resident care promptly and accurately as directed by the RN/LPN and in accordance with plan of care.
- Empathizes with residents, patients and families, remains objective in difficult circumstances, demonstrates flexibility when needed, seeks help and assists in developing solutions for problems, and has a passion for working with long term care residents and skilled rehabilitation patients to provide excellent resident and patient care.
