SUMMARY :
The surgical technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He / she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He / she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
High School diploma or equivalent
ORT or Certification Program
3 Years of experience as Surgical technologist
High level of proficiency in at least 3 surgical service lines.
DUTIES :
Processes all instrumentation equipment, supplies for surgical procedures and maintains log book of sterilization as needed.
Prepares cases cart with all needed supplies for surgical procedures.
Setting up, tear down of OR before and after surgical procedures while applying sterile technique.
Works closely with physician during surgery to achieve best outcome for the patient.
Identify future purchase replacement needs, monitor for outdates.
Takes On call as assigned.
Performs in accordance with AORN Standards.
Actively participates in the Time Out Process.
Assists with GI procedures.
Utilizes and actively updates surgical preference cards.
Accurately performs counts for sponges and instruments according to P&P.
Labels all medication on the sterile field, both syringe and receptacle.
Exemplifies Customer Service.
Refrains from Gossiping and negative behavior in words and body language.
Participate in committees as assigned.
Perform in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulatory agency standards.
Perform in accordance with EPH vision, mission and goals.
Participates in inventory management of supplies for at least 1 surgical service line
Performs duties of Sterile Processing Technician
All other duties as assigned

VERIFICATION OF CREDENTIALS CHECKLIST
Before agency personnel may provide care to patients or perform any responsibility requiring a license, a HR representative will confirm receipt of the following credentials / documents from candidates travel agency :
Current CO license or multistate license and source verified
o If permanent license, verify online & print a copy of the page.
o If temporary license, have copy of authorization letter from Colorado Board of Nursing; verify by phone, note on copy and place in their file.
Copies of certifications required for the position that are listed in the Job Description.
o Such as : BLS and ACLS must be AHA, and PALS.
Immunization records including documentation of immunity to Rubella, Rubeola, Mumps, Varicella-Zoste, Hep B and Tetanus.
TB test within the last year. Acceptable tests include QuantiFERON or Tspot or True Two step PPD (which means skins test and read must be done 2 times not just once. If they do not have the Two step PPD already it will take a few weeks to get it, so the other options are suggested.)
Influenza shot is required by the State of Colorado no exceptions during influenza season. Influenza season is Sept 1st (depending on availability of flu vaccines) through to March 31st of the following year, or as otherwise defined by the Department of Epidemiology and Flu Surveillance Team.
Confirmation of having received the COVID Vaccine (copy of vaccine card).
Copy of negative 10 panel drug screen results (within the last 30 days).
