About the Role
The Assistant Surveyor assists the Surveyor and provides support for construction layouts and survey work.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate surveying activities.
- Assess worksite conditions.
- Assemble, disassemble, check, use, adjust, and maintain surveying instruments and equipment, including global positioning system (GPS) base-station and rover; robotic total station; site levels; and laser levels.
- Assists with establishing baselines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements for ground surveys.
- Mark survey points by driving stakes, nails, and hubs into surfaces.
- Conduct survey layouts and collect related data.
- Assist the Surveyor with the installation of level loops and conducting traverses.
- Assist with verifying the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculation conducted at survey sites.
- Prepare and maintain various forms documentation, including reports and daily logs of all fieldwork.
- Take and maintain detailed notes, records, and sketches.
- Review and interpret drawings, specifications, field books, reports, maps, deeds, and records.
- Perform quality-control checks on site layouts, site-work, and traffic control.
- Adhere to the company’s safety program, including identifying and reporting hazardous conditions and other risks.
- Take the initiative to understand the purpose and process of the Surveyor’s duties and responsibilities.
- Perform special projects as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-3 years of work experience related to construction surveying.
- Work experience related to civil construction.
- High school diploma (or equivalent) or certification from a trade school.
- Math skills, including the ability to add and subtract lengths, change from one unit of measurement to another, and measure distances, angles, and directions.
- Experience working with various computer software programs, including Trimble (SCS900/Siteworks), MS Office Suite, and ProCore, or similar programs.
- The ability to carry up to 50lbs of equipment and supplies throughout the day, even in inclement weather.
- Reliable transportation to and from worksite to worksite.
