The Civil Engineer position is a progressive position allowing for advancement based on experience, knowledge, and demonstrated abilities. Placement of candidates upon hire will be dependent on experience. This position requires the application of civil engineering principles and practices from various engineering disciplines to engineer systems that provide for the storage, transfer, and/ or treatment of waste generated on farm production sites. Work involves, but is not limited to, site characterization, technical drafting, design and preparation of construction plans and specifications with NRCS and WDNR standards, functioning as Project Engineer and/or Construction Inspector on various projects, and coordination and communication with engineering staff, contractors and clients. Assignments afford some opportunity for independent creativity and judgment in planning work or in making efficient technical decisions. This position works in cooperation with staff and may serve as a lead person for other various staff.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited school.
- Entry level does not require related experience, mid-level requires at least two years of related experience.
- Valid driver’s license upon employment
- A willingness to engage, learn and develop expertise.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, by communicating verbally and in writing with colleagues, clients and regulative authorities.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD
- Knowledge of land surveying methods and techniques
- Ability to work with constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
Preferred qualifications:
- Fundamentals of Engineering
- Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Knowledge of engineering methods and techniques as applied to waste containment structures design, Open and Closed Conduit Flow and Pumps.
- Knowledge of United Soil Classification System.
- Familiarity with WDNR and NRCS statutes and standards related to agricultural waste management.
- Agriculture experience or background
Tools and Equipment Used:
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (AutoCAD Civil 3d, HydroCAD. Excel, Word), personal computer, global positioning system (GPS) surveying equipment, hand operated auger equipment, hand tools, camera, phone, copy machine, calculator, full-sized pickup truck.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be frequently required to walk over rough, wild terrain; use hands to operate tools such as an 8-pound sledgehammer or a shovel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The work may be strenuous and repetitive. The work will also require sitting at a workstation and operating a keyboard & mouse. Specific vision abilities required by this job include being able to sight through a telescopic instrument, close vision and the ability to adjust focus, and the ability to decern colors as needed for the determination of Muncel soil colors.

Benefits/Pay:
Salary Range: $55,000 to $80,000

Roach & Associates, LLC is seeking Civil Engineers to join our team!
