Job Summary:
The Traffic Control Laborer is responsible for assisting with the setup, maintenance, and removal of traffic control devices, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of traffic around construction zones, road work, or other regulated areas. This position requires the worker to be attentive to safety protocols, use proper traffic control equipment, and follow instructions from supervisors to manage and direct traffic safely. Union membership is required for this position.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Help set up work zones by placing and securing traffic control devices like cones, barriers, and signs to ensure safety for milling and paving crews.

  • Assist in removing traffic control devices such as signs and barricades when the work phase is finished or needs adjustments, keeping the area clear for public safety.

  • Load and unload traffic control equipment like signs and barricades, making sure everything is properly stored and transported to and from the job site.

  • Report any issues or safety concerns with traffic control devices to the supervisor or other higher-level employees for quick resolution.

  • In-person attendance is required.

Other Required Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform additional tasks as needed, such as assisting coworkers, maintaining equipment, or addressing changes on the job site to ensure the project runs smoothly.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and tolerate exposure to sounds and odors commonly associated with the job.
  • The position will require work outside of normal business hours.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.

  • Represent The Gerken Companies to customers in a professional manner, supporting the company’s goals.

Education and Experience:

  • Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school is required.
