School Nurse (LPN)
Qualifications:
- LPN
- Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing with a current good standing Tennessee Practical Nursing License or other legal credential required
- Current certification in CPR BLS for Healthcare Provider
- 3 years of nursing experience (pediatric experience is a plus)
- Critical thinking skills
- Proficiency in enteral feedings, catheterizations, and diabetic monitoring preferred
- Physical ability to endure extended periods of standing, walking, running, sitting and/or stair climbing. Ability to push/lift/carry up to 40 pounds.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred
- Ability to communicate with teachers/parents/children
- Professional appearance
- Dependable transportation to site
Reports to:
- Principal
Performance Responsibilities:
- Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, sight and hearing testing as directed by Health Services.
- Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs.
- Instructs teachers on screening students for health defects.
- Maintains confidential, up-to-date cumulative health records and documentation on all students. (per HIPPA guidelines)
- Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.
- Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
- Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
- Implements Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
- Participates in in-service training programs and Continuing Nurse Education.
- Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
- Performs job duties under the supervision of Lead Nurse.
- Perform responsibilities according to the Nurse Practice Act and Roane County Schools Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Administers medication and treatments to students as ordered by physicians.
- Consult with physicians and other healthcare providers as needed.
- Seek assistance if unfamiliar with ANY procedure.
- Works collaboratively with other departments, resources and other school nurses.
- Function as an Educational Assistant/Front Office Assistant when not performing Health Service duties.
- Report to work location assigned by Supervisor, which may require departure from base school location as needed.
- Establish and maintain satisfactory, respectful working relationships with the school environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the administrator.
