What are the responsibilities and job description for the HS BAND AUXILIARY position at ROANOKE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS?
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be 21 years old or older.
- Must be experienced working with marching bands and color guard.
- Experience in the various sub-groups of the guard unit (flags, rifles, dance, etc.)
- Experience in composing and choreographing routines for the various color guard units
- Demonstrated management and leadership skills.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions.
- Proven ability to carry an assignment to its completion.
- Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks associated with the duties and responsibilities listed below.
- Able to attend after school rehearsals and events.
- The marching band color guard instructor will work with the Director or Bands, be a team player with instructional staff members and students to ensure a positive experience for students and successful public performances.
- These efforts will be accomplished through after-school rehearsals, weekend events and performance events.
- The color guard instructor shall enforce and adhere to the policies, rules and guidelines of Roanoke County Public Schools and the band program to which they are associated.
- Attend all rehearsals during the course of the season.
- Attend all competitions, home football games and other public appearances as needed by the Director of Bands
- Design, choreograph and teach color guard routines that effectively complement and enhance the visual component of the marching band show.
- Assist in evaluating members' abilities and design a guard routine accordingly.
- Work closely with the Director of Bands and other staff members to develop a visual program including flag, uniform, and prop design.
- Show good communications skills when requesting needs and resources from the school system and booster organizations.
- Instruct members in fundamental dance, flag, rifle techniques.
- Manage all equipment necessary for rehearsals and performances including maintenance, repair and acquisition recommendations ensuring that the color guard is properly equipped for rehearsals and performances.
- Recruit potential color guard members while retaining current members.
- Other related duties, as assigned, to assist the Director of Bands prepare students for home games, competitions, and public appearances.
