NUTRITION MANAGER - Mountain View Elementary School

Roanoke County Public Schools is currently seeking a Nutrition Manager for Mountain View Elementary School for the 2025-2026 School Year. This position will begin on August 4, 2025. This is a full-time position, with a 192-day contract, 8 hours/day, eligible for benefits. Nutrition Managers are on the RCPS Pay Plan Grade 115. Interviews will begin immediately and the position will remain open until filled.

Position Description/Job Summary

The School Nutrition Manager will oversee many aspects of the site Child Nutrition Program (CNP) operation. The job functions include administering, planning, assessment, implementing and evaluation of the program to meet the financial and nutritional needs as they relate to the program. The Manager will partner with others in the school district to provide an environment that supports healthy food habits while maintaining program integrity, sustainability and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Plans and implements production schedules and work assignments
  • Implements planned menus using efficient production techniques, including production documentation, to monitor student acceptance
  • Practices and implements good customer service standards
  • Plans and implements merchandizing and marketing techniques to enhance student acceptability
  • Implements sanitation and safety procedures that comply with federal, state and local regulations
  • Inputs online ordering food and supplies from local vendors
  • Compiles and inputs online vendor invoices
  • Receives, stores, handles, prepares and serves food to meet department established standards
  • Maintains required storage system for daily, monthly, yearly reports
  • Submits to Nutrition Office compiled daily, monthly or yearly reports per established deadlines
  • Manages all funds for required daily deposit
  • Monitors equipment and refers to Nutrition office for maintenance in a timely manner
  • Available to assist contracted equipment repair vendors with product information and on-site repairs
  • Assists staff and parents concerning student accounts
  • Communicates program information to encourage support from students, staff, parents, administrators, and community
  • Manages program in accordance with federal, state and local requirements
  • Required attendance to job-related and support training classes and meetings
  • Promotes staff development to employees for the enhancement of knowledge based skills
  • Trains, supervises and evaluates staff according to established standards
  • Assists school administrator and Nutrition Supervisor in the implementation of progressive discipline procedures
  • Flexibility to assume job duties at another site when needed
  • Performs other duties which are deemed necessary for the efficient operation of the program

  • Possess and maintain a Serv/Safe Certification for Food Safety from the National Restaurant Association
  • Demonstrate appropriate dress, proper hygiene and personal appearance

Education And Experience

Possess a high school diploma, or equivalent high school certificate

One (1) year school food service experience or related institutional experience

Possess the ability to lead, direct and supervise

Basic computer experience

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must have the ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to perform all aspects related to food preparation and equipment use. Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels; physical agility to lift/carry up to 50 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to climb stairs, to walk, to reach overhead, and to use repetitive motion in the same position for extended periods of time. Must have the ability to wear protective attire in the food service operation. Ability to work in kitchens that exhibit moist and hot environments. Must have the ability to drive a vehicle.
