Position Description
Job Summary : The Music and Performing Arts Supervisor leads the music and performing arts programs for elementary, middle, and high school grades, including the Center for Performing Arts specialty center. Responsibilities / Duties / Functions / Tasks :
Communicate with staff, administration, school board and community
Supervise the development and revision of curriculum implementation, including innovative programs designed to attract increased student participation in vocal and instrumental programs
Plan and lead professional development activities
Monitor regional, state and national curriculum trends through participation in professional conferences and organizations
Supervise the purchase, use and safety of instructional materials, equipment, and facilities
Supervise the design and purchase of uniforms for high school bands and choirs
Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and music libraries yearly
Work with Center for Performing Arts faculty on instruction, programs, applications and curriculum
Recruit, interview and make recommendations for employment and placement
Monitor activities with high school band booster clubs
Attend after hour programs and concerts
Maintain equipment; negotiate repair contract and replace equipment as necessary
Organize and plan special county events, such as All County, Concert Assessment, Jazz Festival, and Solo / Ensemble Festival
Set up and supervise the after school string program and work with arts groups throughout the valley
Minimum Job Requirements / Qualifications
The successful applicant will have a demonstrated knowledge and passion for music education. The applicant must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with administration, faculty, students and parents. Applicant must stay abreast of current trends and pedagogy in music education. Applicant must be able to set priorities and meet deadlines. Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) are necessary. Applicant must be proficient in a music writing program such as Sibelius or Finale. Applicant must remain current with elementary music digital textbooks. Applicant must be familiar with current music applications such as Smart Music and Sight Reading Factory. Some experience with marching band is preferred.
Education and Experience
Master’s degree, preferred
Collegiate professional license with endorsement in Music K-12
Experience teaching music at elementary or secondary levels in public schools
