Job Title: Trade and Industrial Education – Public Safety Instructor
Job Summary:
The Public Safety Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in public safety-related fields, preparing students for careers in emergency management, law enforcement, emergency medical services (EMS), and other protective service areas. The instructor will develop and deliver engaging curriculum, ensure student competency, and align instruction with industry standards and credentialing requirements.
Qualifications:
• License Requirement:
• Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Trade and Industrial Education – Public
Safety (License #74099) teaching license.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of related work experience, OR
- Associate degree with a minimum of 4 years of related work experience, OR
- High school diploma/GED with a minimum of 6 years of related work experience.
Work Experience:
- Experience in any public safety area, including firefighting, law enforcement,emergency medical services, paramedic, emergency management, protective services, or military experience.
- Previous teaching experience in this content area is preferred but not required.
- Volunteer service is acceptable for firefighting and EMT-related experience.
Required Credentials Prior to Teaching:
- North Carolina Department of Public Safety C.E.R.T. certification, OR
- North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal Qualified Firefighter Instructor certification, OR
- North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services EMT Instructor certification, OR
- Law enforcement certification (current or lapsed) from a state or federal law enforcement entity.
Additional Credential Requirements (Within First Year of Teaching):
- International Foundation for Protective Officers (IFPO) certification.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement instructional plans that align with industry standards and prepare
students for public safety careers.
• Provide hands-on, experiential learning opportunities in emergency response, law
enforcement, and protective services.
• Evaluate student performance and provide feedback to support skill development.
• Maintain required certifications and stay updated on industry practices.
• Collaborate with school administration and community partners to enhance student
learning opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and guidelines in the instructional environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in curriculum development and student assessment.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Knowledge of career pathways and credentialing requirements in public safety fields.
Employment Type: Full-time 10-month position.
