Early Childhood Teacher Assistant Internship

DEFINITION

Under the direct supervision of the Early Childhood Director, the person in this position will work with individuals and groups of children in an inclusive early childhood environment that promotes social / emotional, communication, physical, and cognitive development. This position does not replace an assistant teacher.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direct supervision from the Early Childhood Center Director.

Intern will also receive direction from an early childhood teacher or early childhood special educator.

PRIMARY DUTIES-The following are examples of primary duties assigned to the Intern support teacher. Other related primary duties and responsibilities may also be assigned.

  • Provide for careful and effective supervision of individuals and groups of children, on and off campus, in accordance with district-established policies and procedures and Colorado's Office of Early Childhood Child Care Licensing Rules.
  • Maintain a positive, developmentally appropriate, organized, and creative learning environment.
  • Work with individual students and small groups of students.
  • Maintain classroom environment in a sanitary, neat, and orderly manner.
  • Assist with snacks and other appropriate meals, including maintaining a clean environment for snacks and meals.
  • Attend to the physical needs of the children (i.e., feeding, toileting, resting, etc.).
  • Maintain a cooperative relationship with school staff.
  • Assure the health and safety of children by following health and safety practices and regulations.
  • Provide first aid and health-related services as needed.
  • PDIS required training towards your Level 2 for your ECT and adhering to guidelines set by the District and the Colorado Department of Human Services.
  • Engaging with parents and children when they enter the classroom in the morning and pick-up time.
  • Positively attend to kids at times when the children are not engaging in challenging behavior.
  • Call the children by their names throughout the day and encourage them to use your teacher's name.
  • Join children's play and support and expand their interactions with their peers.
  • Use positive descriptive feedback for children's skills, convey enthusiastic encouragement, and acknowledge that they are individual children.
  • Refer to and review the classroom schedule with children throughout the day.
  • Use transition strategies (songs, games, or other activities) to ensure that all children are actively engaged during the transition, including those who are waiting for the next activity.
  • Implement predictable routines within daily activities, and follow routines consistently on a day to day basis.
  • Provide children with multiple opportunities to make choices across the day, assist children in selecting centers and becoming engaged, comment positively and descriptively on children's engagement, redirect unengaged children, and support them to become actively engaged.
  • Provide clear and effective directions.
  • Teach children friendship skills (sharing, turn taking, helping others, requesting and distributing items, and working cooperatively) by using a variety of strategies (small and large group instruction, modeling, and prompting)
  • Follow our Second Step Social Emotional Curriculum.
  • Communicate information regularly regarding children's needs, interests, and programming goals with all staff members.
  • Time management, arriving to work on time, and being respectful of other staff members' time.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of :

Developmental stages and behaviors of preschool age students

Basic methods used in overseeing and directing student's activities in a variety of age-appropriate settings

Positive guidance and classroom management techniques

English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation

CPR / First Aid / Universal Precautions / Medication Administration training

Ability to :

Assist in the supervision of a variety of student groups in a variety of settings

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

Maintain a professional appearance while at work

Interact with children in a way that is both nurturing and respectful

Successfully pass relevant background checks

Ability to successfully complete CPR and First Aid training within three(3) months of hiring

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

License or Certificate : CPR / First Aid / Universal Precautions / Medication Administration training (done within our program with the direction of our center director)

Colorado Training System PBIS Level 2 for ECT

Working on your high school diploma or equivalent.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works both inside and outside. The noise level is usually moderate. The employee is frequently required to sit, walk, and stand.

Physical Conditions :

Primary functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary for sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time, using a computer, lifting, and carrying.

Hourly Rate : $20.73
