The Roaring Fork School District is looking for a full time Head Custodian. This position is year-round, full-time medical and state benefits eligible, and available immediately.

Starting pay range is $23.03 - $28.53/ hr - DOE

A minimum of 3 years custodial experience preferred

Candidates must be able to read equipment instructions and material labels, measure chemicals, draft basic signage, etc. A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not required. Selected candidates must pass a CBI/FBI background check.

DEFINITION

To perform a full range of custodial duties and lead a crew related to the care, cleaning, and minor maintenance of assigned buildings and facilities. Ensures that the Roaring Fork School District’s custodial staff are trained to meet or exceed the Building Cleaning Standards.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives direct supervision from the Custodial Supervisor. May occasionally receive supervision from the Custodial Director.

Will receive day to day direction from the Principal and Assistant Principal. Provides direction to custodians as related to special events and school functions.

PRIMARY DUTIES--The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Minimum duties to be done daily

  • Estimates time, materials and equipment required for jobs assigned; requisition and purchase supplies and materials as required.
  • Leads and trains building custodians to ensure that buildings are kept clean and safe.
  • Clean, disinfect and deodorize restroom facilities and fixtures including sinks, urinals and toilets, maintain fixtures and replenish supplies in restrooms.
  • Clean and sanitize all drinking fountains.
  • Clean, sanitize and deodorize cafeteria or other common areas where students eat meals.
  • Empty and clean waste receptacles.
  • Clean and maintain order in storage supply closets.
  • Monitor outside grounds conditions and cleanliness; empty waste receptacles.
  • Identify and correct or fix any building safety hazards.
  • Secure facilities after working hours.
  • May be assigned to other buildings in the absence of other custodians.
  • Plan holiday and summer cleaning projects and schedules with the building principal.
  • Maintain M.S.D.S (Material Safety Data Sheets)
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, max, strip and polish floors using a variety of chemicals, cleansers and equipment, vacuum and shampoo carpets and upholstered furniture.
  • Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures and equipment; wash windows, mirrors, walls and ceilings.
  • Move and arrange furniture and equipment and set up rooms for meetings and special functions.
  • Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
  • Maintain custodial equipment in proper working conditions.
  • During the summer or other breaks throughout the year, deep clean buildings.
  • Assist in the snow removal from sidewalks or other areas surrounding the buildings.
  • May perform work in emergency situations; may serve on a 24-hour standby basis as required.
  • Reports to work on time and accurately record time worked; may need to adjust work schedule due to weather conditions, emergencies or other work related projects; work overtime as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Methods, procedures and techniques used in custodial work.

Cleaning materials, supplies and equipment

Operations, services and activities of custodial operations.

Work order system and assigned software

Principles of leading an effective crew

Methods, techniques, materials, equipment, and tools used in the installation, maintenance, and reconstruction of facilities, equipment, grounds and systems

Occupational hazards and standard safety practices

Pertinent Federal, State and local codes, laws and regulations

Wiring diagrams, building plans and technical materials

Applicable building codes, ordinances, requirements, regulations and safety precautions

Ability to:

Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment.

Use a variety of custodial equipment, supplies and materials

Independently perform the most difficult custodial work.

Understand and follow oral and written directions

Provide day to day direction to custodial staff

Read and understand cleaning chemical mixture and application directions and MSDS

Perform simple and repetitive tasks

Perform manual labor in unfavorable weather conditions.

Maintain security of buildings and facilities

Work irregular hours

Work independently in the absence of supervision

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Experience and Training Guidelines

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Three years of increasingly responsible custodial experience.

Training:

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

License or Certificate:

The possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid drivers license.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Flexible work schedule to facilitate training for both day and night shifts

Environmental Conditions:

Field and indoor environment; may travel from site to site; exposure to potentially hazardous or cleaning chemicals, noise, dust, grease, orders, smoke, fumes, gases, inclement weather conditions and may work around heavy construction equipment.

Physical Conditions:

Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for moderate and light lifting (up to 50 lbs); bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, standing or walking for prolonged periods of time; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
