POSITION PURPOSE
Provides support to the Maintenance Department by performing a variety of duties including cleaning, servicing, and moving of RFTA transit vehicles and equipment. Primary duties include fueling, cleaning, and pullout of buses not only with conventionally fueled vehicles but also with very specialized alternative fueled vehicles including compressed natural gas and battery electric vehicles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Operates vehicles while strictly complying with RFTA policies, directives, procedures, and all Federal and Colorado traffic laws and regulations.
- Performs routine maintenance (e.g., servicing, fueling, charging, cleaning, fogging, and washing) of buses, shuttles, and automotive equipment; assists mechanics as needed.
- Closely follows RFTA's procedures for proficient use of automated fueling systems.
- Cleans interiors of buses (e.g., floors, walls, mirrors, ceilings, carpet, and upholstery) both by hand and with pressurized and powered equipment.
- Removes, empties, and replaces vaults from fare buses during fueling, downloads data from buses with the reader.
- Responsible to maintain the work area in a neat and orderly manner. Monitors, refills, and orders bus cleaning supplies as needed.
- Operates and parks buses and automotive equipment both inside and outside on the grounds of the RFTA Bus Maintenance Facility.
- Records vehicle numbers and corresponding mileage, fuel, fluid usage, and other pertinent information on the fuel sheet when required or via the fluids management system.
- Responsible for checking EVIR while processing vehicles. After the vehicle is processed, must park the vehicle in the designated area and update the plot sheet.
- Responsible for the prompt pull-out of assigned vehicles.
- Transports, trade-out buses or shuttles buses, and other vehicles as needed.
- Performs street maintenance to the facility parking lot and roadway by sanding roads, plowing snow, and assisting with vehicle recovery efforts when necessary.
- Performs routine cleanliness inspections with Operations personnel. Performs annual cleanliness inspections for FTA SGR reporting.
- Documents all actions taken in a professional manner in written and /or electronic format. Completes all necessary forms (e.g., accident, incident, spill reports, etc.).
- Completes assigned safety and compliance training in RFTA-sponsored Learning Management Software on a timely basis. Incomplete training required for the position will adversely affect the annual performance review. This includes all RFTA-required training programs.
- Actively and continuously improves professional knowledge, skills, and abilities by participating in routine training sessions and educational seminars relevant to the position and job duties.
- Performs assigned fleet-wide projects during overlap or downtime.
- Meets attendance/participation standards for routine safety meetings and training session.

Must understand and adhere to departmental, organizational, and industry safety standards and practices not only with conventionally fueled vehicles but also with very specialized alternative fueled vehicles including biofuels, compressed natural gas, and battery electric vehicles. Safely operates vehicles and equipment. Proactively maintains a safe working environment with regard to all job duties. Routinely attends and participates in safety training, meetings, and inspections. Bring all safety issues and concerns to department supervisors and to the Safety and Training Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Solid knowledge of safety and working practices of routine bus and automotive washing, fueling, charging, and servicing

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Ability to read, write, and understand English for safety and documentation purposes. Ability to use a computer to log time and document issues.
Licenses, Certifications, Qualifications
Must maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License and be able to obtain a Colorado State Commercial Driver's License with a B-P2 rating within ninety (90) days of beginning employment.
- Underground Storage Tank (UST) Class C operator Certification
- Successful completion of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Safety and Operation Training
- Successful completion of RFTA Electric Vehicle Familiarization, Orientation, and Safety Training
- Successful completion of RFTA Electric Vehicle Charging Training
- Successful completion of Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) training
- On-going demonstration of proper use of minimum PPE as required by RFTA's BBP program.
- Successful completion of RFTA Defensive Driving Training
- Successful completion of RFTA Workforce Harassment Training
- Zonar EVIR Training
Experience
Experience not required; training provided. Must speak, read, and understand English well enough to comprehend training, safety communication, and documentation.
ON-THE-JOB TRAINING
Up to three (3) months of on-the-job experience is normally required to perform the job effectively.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Strenuous physical activity is required by handling objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently. This position involves walking several miles per day, frequently climbing up and down stairs, bending, stooping, and repetitive motions. Works in close proximity to operating machinery and outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Incumbent may be required to lift, bend and stoop. Comes in contact with bodily fluids on a regular basis. Works on a regular basis with hazardous and toxic materials strictly adhering to all safety rules and regulations pertaining to their use, storage, and proper disposal. Personal Protective Equipment provided.
- Must be able to pass a fitness for duty test and drug and alcohol prior to employment.
- RFTA Vehicle Maintenance Department operates two locations 24 hrs. /7 days a week 365 days a year. All employees are expected to work weekends, holidays, and any shift as necessary.
- Most shifts are 10 ½ hours with non-traditional staring times; generally, the morning shift (6:00 AM), afternoon (2:00 PM) or graveyard (10:00 PM). There are no conventional Mon-Fri 8-5 shifts.
