Location: Candidate must be able to work onsite in Carbondale, Colorado (or as directed by manager)
Pay Range: Hiring/Starting pay range is $23.32 - $28.00/hourly, based on experience.

Position Purpose:
The Trails and Corridor Technician assists in maintaining the Railroad Corridor and the Rio Grande Trail, ensuring a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for all users. This role involves trail construction, repairs, landscaping, irrigation, noxious weed control, restoration, tree work, and maintaining amenities such as fences, signs, picnic areas, vault toilets, and trash/recycling receptacles.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
Trail Maintenance and Construction:
- Assist in the construction, repair, and maintenance of trail surfaces, drainage systems, and structures.
- Maintain asphalt pavement and shoulders to ensure safe conditions for multi-use trail activities.
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment used for trail construction, maintenance, and repair.
Restoration and Vegetation Management:
- Conduct landscaping tasks, including mowing, trimming, and seeding native vegetation.
- Maintain irrigation systems and ensure proper watering schedules.
- Control noxious weeds by using RFTA's Weed Management Plan.
- Perform tree work, including pruning, removal of hazardous limbs, and maintaining healthy tree growth.
- Assist in restoration projects to restore natural habitats and promote ecological health.
Amenity Maintenance and Repairs:
- Maintain and repair amenities such as fences, signs, picnic areas, vault toilets, and trash/recycling receptacles.
- Perform routine cleaning, painting, and minor carpentry work.
- Monitor and report any vandalism, safety hazards, or necessary repairs.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Use personal protective equipment and follow safe work practices.
Public Engagement and Volunteer Support:
- Support special projects or events related to trail maintenance and community engagement.
Other Duties:
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Knowledge of trail maintenance and construction, land management, and noxious weed control practices.
- Ability to operate and maintain various hand and power tools safely.
- Basic understanding of irrigation systems and maintenance.
- Ability to perform physical labor in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills and data entry.
Qualifications:
- Valid driver's license required.
- Basic knowledge of trail maintenance and vegetation management.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a standard office environment and in the field. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions, potentially dangerous tools, machinery, and equipment, and fumes.
- Frequently lifts up to 30 lbs. and carries up to 50 feet; occasionally lifts up to 30 lbs. from floor to knuckle; frequently lifts up to 20 lbs. from shoulder to overhead; occasionally pushes and pulls items weighing up to 100lbs.; occasionally performs bi-lateral lift of 30 lbs. and carries up to 50 ft.; frequently lifts up to 35 lbs. from waist level and lowers to floor.
- Frequently bends at waist, squats, kneels, shovels, and rakes.
- Occasionally climbs ladder; must be able to stand and balance on ladder
- Regularly walks over uneven terrain.
- Must be able to ride an electric bike up to 20 miles a day
