Pay Range: Hiring/Starting pay range is $100,000 - $120,000/annually, based on experience.

Position Purpose:
The Systems Engineer is a crucial role in designing, managing, maintaining, and securing RFTA's computer systems, networks, servers, and associated hardware and software. The primary role will be responsibility for ensuring the stability, performance, and reliability of our systems, including virtualization, Active Directory, and security components, while also managing group policies, patching, vulnerability remediation, and adhering to ITIL best practices to facilitate seamless and efficient day-to-day operations.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
Systems Design, Maintenance and Monitoring:
- Collaborates with departments to design infrastructure solutions.
- Performs regular system updates, patches, and upgrades to ensure the reliability and security of all systems.
- Monitors system performance and troubleshoots issues proactively to minimize downtime and disruptions.
Server Administration and Virtualization:
- Builds, manages and maintains servers running various operating systems, including Windows and Linux, leveraging virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Implements and manages virtual environments to enhance resource utilization and scalability.
Active Directory Management and Group Policy:
- Administers and maintains the Active Directory infrastructure, including user accounts, group policies, and domain services.
- Utilizes Group Policy Management to enforce security policies, software deployment, and system configurations.
Application Delivery:
- Implements and manages application delivery solutions to ensure reliable and efficient access to critical transportation applications.
- Collaborates with application developers and vendors to optimize application performance.
Patching, Hardening, and Vulnerability Remediation:
- Develops and executes patch management and system hardening strategies to keep systems UpToDate and secure.
- Conducts regular vulnerability assessments and remediate identified vulnerabilities promptly.
Backup and Disaster Recovery:
- Develops and executes backup and recovery plans to safeguard critical transportation data and ensure business continuity in the event of a disaster.
ITIL Best Practices:
- Applies ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) best practices for incident management, change management, and service delivery.
- Collaborates with IT teams to ensure alignment with ITIL processes and standards.
User Support and Training:
- Provides technical support to end users, addressing hardware and software issues related to transportation systems.
- Conducts training sessions to educate staff on best practices and ensure efficient utilization of IT resources.
Security:
- Implements and enforces security solutions, policies and procedures to safeguard sensitive transportation data and comply with industry regulations.
- Conducts regular security audits and risk assessments.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborates with cross functional teams to implement IT solutions that enhance transportation operations.
- Communicates effectively with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide updates on system status.
Office 365, Microsoft Exchange, and Azure Administration:
- Manages and administers Office 365 services, including user provisioning, licensing, and security settings.
- Oversees Microsoft Exchange administration, handling tasks such as mailbox management and troubleshooting email-related issues.
- Demonstrates proficiency in Azure administration, integrating on-premises Active Directory with Azure AD, and ensuring security considerations in a hybrid environment.
Other Duties:
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
- Strong knowledge of operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux), networking protocols, hardware, and software applications.
- Experience in system setup, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Understanding cybersecurity principles, best practices, and tools to secure systems and networks.
- Analytical thinking and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Capacity to work collaboratively with other IT professionals and various departments within the organization.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines effectively.
- Ability to maintain positive, effective working relationships and provide both internal and external exemplary customer service.
- Competent verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifications:
Education
- High School Diploma required.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field preferred.
Experience
- 5-8 years' experience as a Systems Engineer, Systems Administrator, Cyber Security Analyst, or similar position required.
Working Conditions:
This position typically operates in an office environment. May require occasional evening or weekend work to address urgent technical issues or to perform system upgrades. Must be able to lift and move computer equipment as necessary. Must be able to sit for extended periods while working on computer tasks.
