To provide training and support for administrators, teachers, students, and parents to enhance preparation for post-secondary education. |
Duties and Responsibilities |
· Orient parents, students, faculty, and staff to GEAR UP and raise awareness of the benefits of post-secondary education among school personnel, parents, and the community at large. · Serve as a college planning resource for teachers, educators, counselors, and parents. · Design and implement in-school and after-school tutoring and mentoring programs in coordination with other GEAR UP agencies. · Work with in-school and out-of-school time clubs to provide opportunities for youth to explore a variety of careers in such areas as science, engineering, agriculture, business, the arts (theater, music, design), hospitality, etc. · Develop, implement, and/or enhance parent workshops. · Coordinate academic year college visit for students. · Develop a comprehensive pre-college program for middle and high school students that include career exploration, academic planning/preparation, and financial planning. · Work cooperatively with educators to provide summer enrichment activities that include job shadowing, college visits, camps, career activities, etc. · Manage data collection and entry from schools and provide continuous feedback to the GEAR UP partnership staff regarding project benchmarks and outcomes. · Collect rosters and agendas from each event listing students and families served for attachment to monthly reimbursement requests. · Attend GEAR UP Partnership meetings, institutes, and conferences, providing continuous feedback and recommendations. · With ASU GEAR UP guidance, assist in developing the annual work plan. · Serve as a mentor and provide positive role model for GEAR UP students; encourage students in the eligible cohorts to participate in GEAR UP activities. · Work with the District Liaison and GCS staff to complete annual budget requests. · Direct activities as the GEAR UP Parent Advocate. · Complete any additional tasks assigned by supervisor. |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities |
Experience in or knowledge of the public-school setting is preferred. Strong public relation skills, demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication skills, computer competency, ability to organize trave events are a must. |
Education and Experience |
Certification, 2-year college degree or 4-year college degree.
