Robert Half is working with a law firm seeking a Construction Attorney. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of general commercial construction, complex construction projects, and government contracts. This role requires strong expertise in contract drafting, negotiation, administration, and resolving disputes in construction law. The attorney will work closely with owners, contractors, designers, and other professionals to ensure compliance and successful management of projects. Candidates must be admitted to the California Bar.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Contract Drafting & Negotiation : Represent owners, contractors, and designers in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide variety of contracts, including design-build, engineering, procurement, and public works agreements.
  • Contract Administration : Advise on contract interpretation, modifications, and administration to minimize risks and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks in government and commercial projects.
  • Risk Management & Dispute Avoidance : Develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure contract performance, while advising stakeholders on dispute avoidance measures.
  • Litigation & Arbitration : Manage construction-related disputes, including claims of construction and design defects, bid protests, and arbitration / litigation of claims.
  • Claims & Adjustments : Handle a variety of issues such as delay and impact claims, equitable adjustments, extra work disputes, and requests for equitable adjustments.
  • Procurement Compliance : Address procurement-related matters, ensuring transparency and fairness for bid submissions, evaluations, and contract awards.
  • Client Representation : Represent clients in equitable adjustments, change orders, and claims for damages or delays in government and private projects.

Key Qualifications :

  • Bar Admission : Must be an active member of the California Bar.
  • Education : Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Experience :
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial construction and complex project-related legal frameworks, with a focus on government contracts.
  • Proven track record in handling procurement, claims, and construction defect disputes.
  • Expertise in construction contract litigation and arbitration.
  • Skills :
  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills.
  • Thorough understanding of construction risk management.
  • Ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience working with public sector entities or large infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with federal and California public procurement laws and processes, including bid protests.
