About the Company - Our client, a leading Washington DC law firm, is seeking a Litigation Paralegal. The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $115,000.
About the Role - The Litigation Paralegal will perform a variety of responsibilities to assist attorneys in litigation matters, including organizing and maintaining case files, pleadings, and other documents. This position will also coordinate document control systems, litigation support services, assist with witness preparation for depositions and trials, and ensure client confidentiality. The role will also assist in various enforcement strategies, including those outside of district and federal court. In order to perform one or more essential functions of this role, a minimum of three days in the office is required.
Responsibilities
- Establish, organize, and maintain proprietary electronic versions of case files, including discovery, notebooks, and indexes.
- Coordinate discovery, including preparation for depositions and handling document productions such as gathering, review, labeling, and organizing extensive ESI document databases using various review software platforms.
- Proficient in computerized litigation support software such as Relativity, Trial Director, Adobe, and SharePoint.
- Set up and coordinate databases and conduct database searches.
- Draft correspondence and pleadings, including routine notices, declarations, and motions. Prepare charts, indexes, and memoranda, including timelines.
- Maintain docket responsibilities for case deadlines.
- Support trial preparation, including handling trial software and hardware setup, coordinating travel and war room arrangements.
- Assist with IP enforcement outside district court proceedings, including arbitration, IPR, and online marketplace issues.
- Manage appellate work, including organization of appendices and cite-checking briefs.
- Conduct factual and legal research.
Qualifications - BA degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred.
Required Skills
- 5 years as a paralegal in complex litigation, with trial experience (IP-specific litigation experience preferred).
- Knowledge of intellectual property basics, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
- Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints, with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical, or spelling errors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with litigation support software.
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, and staff.
- Ability to handle a high level of mental effort while organizing and managing multiple cases.
- Physical ability to retrieve and distribute print volumes and handle packages weighing up to 50 pounds and retrieve objects from shelves up to 8 feet high.
- Flexibility to work more than 37.5 hours per week, including irregular hours when necessary.
- Ability to travel via public or private conveyance to assist attorneys in attending to clients' legal matters.
- Regular attendance at work is required.
