Payroll Manager
Location: Onsite, Fort Mill
Compensation: $55,000–$65,000s Full Benefits Package
Overview:
We’re seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Payroll Manager who knows payroll like the back of their hand and thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. This is a high-impact role that calls for someone who’s a self-starter, thrives on ownership, and is ready to dive headfirst into all things payroll for a growing team of nearly 300 employees.
This position is 100% onsite and offers a tight-knit, friendly environment with a smaller business feel. Our team is collaborative, energetic, and needs someone who can roll up their sleeves, take initiative, and grow alongside us.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the full payroll cycle for approximately 289 employees on a biweekly schedule.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state (South Carolina), and federal payroll laws and reporting requirements.
- Handle complex payroll scenarios including FMLA, workers' compensation, garnishments, and other variances—no two payrolls are the same!
- Collaborate cross-functionally with a finance team consisting of a Finance Director, Senior Accountant, Staff Accountant, and AP Specialist.
- Assist with or cross-train on Accounts Payable and other financial processes during payroll downtime.
- Maintain and improve payroll reporting and analytics—strong Excel skills are a huge plus.
- Communicate clearly with a wide variety of stakeholders, from internal team members to outside vendors.
- Support ongoing system and process improvements to keep pace with the organization’s growth.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience running payroll independently—ideally in public sector or similar environments
- Solid understanding of payroll laws, compliance standards, and municipal/state-specific requirements (especially SC).
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple moving parts and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills—you love talking to people and building relationships.
- Proactive, reliable, and solutions-oriented with a "get-it-done" attitude.
- Energetic, adaptable, and comfortable in a dynamic, evolving environment.
