Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Network Administrator to support a mission-critical government environment, including work in coordination with Coast Guard network infrastructure. This role is best suited for a mid to senior-level network professional with expertise in deploying, configuring, and maintaining enterprise networking systems and devices — particularly Extreme Networks and Fortinet firewalls. The successful candidate will play a key role in device analysis, configuration, vendor management, and project-based deployments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Detect and diagnose damaged or malfunctioning network hardware; coordinate or perform physical replacements as needed
- Configure and manage Extreme Networks switches and Fortinet firewalls, including VLAN setup, port configuration, and routing protocols (Layer 2/3)
- Manage and maintain network topology and configurations within a secure, government-regulated environment
- Interface with U.S. Coast Guard networks and adhere to all applicable compliance and security protocols
- Collaborate with vendors for equipment procurement, support escalations, and deployment planning
- Execute infrastructure projects including device rollouts, upgrades, and configuration standardization
- Support day-to-day network operations, monitor performance, and ensure availability of critical systems
- Document changes, configurations, and deployments in accordance with government and departmental standards
Qualifications:
- 5 years of progressive experience in network administration
- Strong understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking, VLANs, and routing
- Proven experience with Extreme Networks hardware and Fortinet security appliances
- Ability to independently troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve complex network issues
- Experience managing network deployments and rollouts in an enterprise or government setting
- Familiarity with vendor coordination and project management within IT infrastructure domains
- Ability to follow change management and documentation procedures in a secure environment
- Must be eligible to work with government networks; active security clearance strongly preferred
Preferred Experience:
- Previous work within federal or defense agencies (Coast Guard, DoD, DHS, etc.)
- Knowledge of pitlink systems is a bonus but not required
- Comfortable working in high-compliance, mission-critical settings
