SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director/Assistant of Special Education and the building Principal, responsible for assisting the Special Education department in the administration of the school’s special education program. This is a professional position requiring ability to identify, diagnose, evaluate, plan and monitor programs for special education students. The special education supervisor will be responsible for supervision and evaluation of special education staff in their assigned building. These functions are directly subject to the policies, rules and regulations established by federal, state and local guidelines.
Salary Range: $95,204-$113,678

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned.
Works with school counselors
Monitors pupil attendance
Deals with truancy issues
Assists with staff evaluation and supervision
Manages building staff, including class schedules and building problems within the special education department
Manages building based programming, such as ABA based programming, dat treatment, and functional life skills
Communicates and maintains positive relationships with parents and the community
Conducts assessments using standardized and non-standardized assessments such as: intellectual, behavioral, academic, observational, psychometric, processing and adaptive assessments for identification and program planning.
Helps to analyze and synthesize all evaluation data to assist in determining eligibility and/or program needs.
Helps to determine what evaluations are needed to answer the referral questions.
Assigns multidisciplinary evaluations to staff and outside providers.
Coordinates services with outside agencies (i.e., mental health, medical, DHHS, etc.)
Oversees scheduling of IEP’s and monitors due process deadlines.
Facilitates transition of incoming and outgoing Special Education students.
Reviews file to assess needs (i.e., compliance, program, assessment, etc.)
Oversees compliance standards.
Confers with Special Education central office re: students, programming needs, and staff.
Confers with special education, regular education staff, and administrators re: a variety of student and program needs.
Confers with outside agencies re: student needs.
Proactively consults with the IEP Team.
Provides training in specific strategies and assessments, IEP writing and implementation, data collection, Special Education regulations and other mandates, etc. (ie: behavior plan, FBA, CBA/CBM, 504, ADA, IDEA, etc.)
Identifies staff development needs and facilitates or coordinates the training programs.
Disseminates information to staff and parents.
Supports L.R.E. and best practices.
Other tasks as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises and evaluates special education teachers and educational technicians. Will be involved in the screening and hiring of special education personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Masters Degree in Education, teaching and/or administrative experience preferred but not required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid teaching certificate. Hold or be in the process of obtaining an administrative license #040 or #045
