POSITION SUMMARY:
The Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library (AUC Woodruff Library) is dedicated to supporting the academic and scholarly missions of four distinguished institutions that constitute the world’s largest consortium of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)—Clark Atlanta University, the Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College, and Spelman College. Strategically located to serve these campuses, the AUC Woodruff Library is a central hub for both intellectual and social engagement within the Atlanta University Center community.
Position Overview:
The AUC Woodruff Library is committed to upholding excellence in service delivery. In pursuit of this mission, the library is seeking a motivated and dynamic Systems Librarian Resident. This two-year appointment, based in the Collections and Content Management (CCM) unit, will report directly to the Assistant Director for CCM. The Systems Librarian Resident will play a pivotal role in the integration, maintenance, and optimization of library technologies, including integrated library systems (ILS), discovery platforms, and electronic resources. Working collaboratively with library staff and technical partners, this position will troubleshoot technical challenges, implement system enhancements, and explore emerging technologies, all aimed at enhancing user experiences and streamlining library operations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Train under senior staff to manage the library’s OCLC-based integrated library system (ILS), ensuring optimal configuration, data integrity, and system performance.
- Assist in the maintenance and updating of library databases, including routine upgrades, data migrations, and record clean-up activities.
- Manage the lifecycle of electronic resources and print serials, focusing on access, maintenance, and user support.
- Collaborate with library colleagues to optimize the discovery and accessibility of continuing and electronic resources via the library’s discovery system and other relevant platforms.
- Troubleshoot hardware and access-related issues concerning electronic and continuing resources, coordinating with IT professionals when necessary.
- Develop and document standard operating procedures, promoting consistency and efficiency in technology-driven workflows.
- Stay informed of industry trends and best practices in library systems, proactively recommending improvements to enhance tools and workflows for superior user experiences.
- Partner with IT professionals to plan and develop applications that advance and expand library services.
- This position may require occasional evening or weekend hours, depending on project demands. Flexibility in working outside regular business hours is anticipated.
Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of integrated library systems (preferably OCLC), including configuration, data management, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of managing electronic resources and print serials, with an understanding of common access issues and authentication methods.
- Proficiency in data analysis and migration, including the ability to work with spreadsheets or scripting tools to ensure data integrity.
- Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills, particularly in collaboration with IT teams.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate with diverse library and campus stakeholders.
- Ability to create clear and concise documentation for workflows, best practices, and staff training materials.
- A commitment to staying current with emerging trends and technologies in library systems, integrating them into established workflows to drive continuous improvement.
PREFERRED:
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- MLS degree from an ALA-accredited library school
- One to three years of librarianship experience
