Summary:
The Instructional Assistant provides academic support and assistance in the classroom under the direction of a certified teacher. The Instructional Assistant works with students and performs additional tasks to support teachers in providing a comprehensive educational program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities [Other duties may be assigned]:
- Provides support and assistance to students on a one on one or group review of material taught by a certificated teacher, classroom management and implementation of positive support plans.
- Assist the classroom teacher in arranging the learning environment, including assembling and maintaining materials on boards and/or other classroom learning displays.
- Assists students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects.
- Assure student understanding of classroom rules and procedures and assists students by answering questions, providing examples, emotional support and general guidance.
- Assists and follows the direction of the assigned teacher with the implementation of lesson and positive behavior support plans.
- Administers tests as directed.
- Prepares mandated reports and documentation as required.
- Under the direction of the teacher, collects observational and academic data for student progress monitoring.
- Performs a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities, such as, preparing, typing, copying, and filing instructional materials.
- Assists the certificated teacher with test grading, attendance and reports.
- Assists the certificated teacher with the supervision of students during non-instructional times, such as emergency drills, assemblies, cafeteria, restrooms, field trips, hallways, recess and arrival and dismissal times.
- Assists with lunch duty, snacks, and other clean up duties, as assigned.
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act / Chapter 14.
- Observes and controls the behavior if students in the classroom according to procedures, monitors students, becomes familiar with students IEPs goals and report progress regarding student performance and behavior to certificated teacher.
- Responds appropriately to emergency situations following standing orders and other policies and procedures.
- Becomes acquainted with all learning materials available through RCCS.
- Works closely with Principal/Assistant Principal in maintaining a safe and orderly school environment.
- Participates in general staff meetings. Participates in teacher’s staff meetings as scheduled.

- Additional special projects and/or assignments as requested by CEO, Principal and/or Assistant Principal.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree required OR 48 semester hours or equivalent of courses at a regionally accredited college or university located in PA OR has 3 years experience as a paraprofessional in a school entity and is currently employed as a paraprofessional in a school entity.
- Substitute Teaching experience preferred
- Teaching Certification preferred.
- Must have clear record of background checks, including criminal history and child abuse clearances (Acts 34, 114, 151, 168 and FBI).
- Negative TB Test Result
- Computer knowledge
- Experience in Urban Education setting
