JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Surgical Nurse Coordinator, RN
DEPARTMENT: Surgical
REPORTS TO: Dr. Kevin Robertson
Job Summary: To assist the patient with all aspects of pre-operative preparations and post-operative care in order to promote confidence in their medical care thereby making the surgical experience as smooth as possible.
Education and Experience:
1. RN degree required; surgical experience preferred
2. One to two years of aesthetic/plastic surgery experience preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Answer questions the patient may have regarding the procedure(s) to be performed and explain the fees to be paid for the surgery, including professional fees, as well as surgical facility fees.
2. Be an effective liaison between the patient, surgeon, primary care physician, and the surgical team in all aspects of pre-operative preparations.
3. Attend to daily patient correspondence via phone, email, or our HIPAA compliant messaging system, Klara, in a timely manner.
4. Assist in all local surgical cases, including prep, clean up, post care, patient check out and reprocessing.
5. At the time of scheduling surgery, make a clear explanation of the patient’s financial responsibilities and the need for a complete medical clearance if applicable.
6. Immediately schedule all pre- and post-operative appointments (as applicable) for the patient. Also assist the patient with any communication needed with their primary care physicians, hospitals, clinics, or labs if needed.
7. Answer all telephone inquiries from patients, their families, or primary care physicians concerning surgery and/or related concerns.
8. Schedule patients with the surgical facility; prepare and deliver surgical packet so the patient will have it in time to take it to all pre-operative appointments.
9. Ensure the patient is scheduled for a pre-operative appointment within 30 days of surgery with the expectation that any medical clearance required be completed by that visit. Review surgical teaching including pre and post care at the pre-operative visit and collect payment in full at this time.
10. One week prior to surgery, make sure that all appropriate documentation has been completed and verify that all post-operative appointments are correct. Call the patient at this time and explain what time they should arrive at the surgical facility, answer any questions, and remind them of any changes in their medications, if required. Explain post-operative procedures and schedule necessary appointments
11. Prepare the patient order for surgery and send it to the operating room.
12. Assist in recovering the patient after surgery and work with the patient’s driver to discharge them.
13. Ensure appropriate follow-up with the patient post-operatively, including follow-up with the patient’s primary care provider, if applicable.
14. Maintain inventory, supplies and medical instrumentation reprocessing.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist doctors with daily appointments including consultations as well as pre- and post-operative visits.
2. Learn and master injection techniques to administer Neurotoxins and Dermal Filler as needed to surgical patients.
3. Learn and master additional procedures including but not limited to nerve blocks, subcisions, Kenalog and BBL laser procedures.
4. Weekly prep of charts for pre-operative appointments, verification of necessary documentation and records.
5. Maintain doctor's schedules in regards to scheduling, shifting surgical appointment times if needed and filling openings when available.
Salary : $38 - $42
