Example of Duties:
Under general supervision, performs responsible technical and skilled work in the operation minor maintenance of the water treatment plant and related facilities for the county Water Treatment – Plant Department. Work involves collecting lab samples, performing required analysis and test, and monitoring of testing, and adjusting chemicals that are added to water, reading meters, gauges, and SCADA to check filters, chlorinators, and various other machinery and equipment. Maintains records of readings and making adjustments and repairs to equipment as required. Employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in all phases of work. Reports to the Chief Water Plant Operator A.
Education and Experience:

Education and Experience:
- High School diploma; maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license required upon hire and duration of employment. Out of state driver’s license will be accepted only if the individual is a permanent resident of that state.
- Trainee status will be applied until employee acquires a Class C water treatment plant operator by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality within thirty six (36) months and. (Grade 64 will be applied)
- Water Plant Operator I status will be applied when employee acquires Class C Water Treatment Certification the paygrade will change to grade 65.
- Water Plant Operator II status will be applied when employee acquires Class B Water Treatment Certification the paygrade will change to grade 66.
- Water Plant Operator III status will be applied when employee acquires Class A Water Treatment Certification the paygrade will change to grade 67.
- Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, Motor Vehicle Records driver license check, as well as submit to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
- A criminal background check must be completed by the County of Robeson for potential applicants.
