The Plant Engineer ensures safe and efficient plant operations by planning and coordinating maintenance, repairs, and upgrades while minimizing production downtime. They lead multi-shift teams, oversee preventative maintenance programs, manage capital projects, and maintain compliance with environmental and safety standards. This role requires expertise in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC systems, along with proficiency in CAD software and technical schematics. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to drive productivity, resolve issues, and implement process improvements.
Essential Duties:
- Ensure a safe work environment for all associates by actively monitoring and enforcing safety protocols.
- Plan and coordinate maintenance, repair, and alteration activities to minimize production downtime and interruptions.
- Direct and oversee personnel across multiple shifts, including hiring, training, skill development, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions.
- Monitor environmental conditions to maintain compliance and collaborate with environmental agencies and consultants to resolve safety and environmental issues.
- Develop and submit Capital Appropriation Requests for capital equipment, expansion projects, major maintenance efforts, and service contracts.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions and analyze maintenance requirements to ensure high-quality workmanship and optimal personnel utilization.
- Maintain reliable operation of plant equipment and implement process enhancements to reduce waste, cut costs, and boost productivity.
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance programs in alignment with vendor recommendations.
- Supervise inventories of replacement parts, materials, and supplies to maintain optimal stock levels.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to execute long-term plans, including capacity planning and strategic capital investments.
- Resolve operational issues by working constructively with the Operations team to improve productivity and address technical challenges.
- Stay informed on engineering, maintenance, and management advancements relevant to plant engineering.
- Identify, document, segregate, evaluate, and determine the disposition of non-conforming products, services, and systems.
- Document all departmental processes and procedures, ensuring team members are adequately trained and cross-trained as necessary.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
- Hold a degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Complete vocational and/or apprenticeship trades training
- Demonstrate 5 years of experience in a product or manufacturing environment.
- Apply knowledge and experience with ISO standards and product management.
- Exhibit expertise in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC control systems.
- Communicate proficiently in verbal and written English.
Preferred Skills:
- Electrical Engineer
- Gain familiarity with MRPII systems.
- CNC experience for equipment and process optimization.
Technical Proficiency:
- Operate Microsoft Office and AutoCAD/CAD, Inventor, and Revit
- Read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical schematics.
- Understand construction blueprints and CNC operation programming.
