What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lower School Teacher Assistant position at ROBS?
River Oaks Baptist School is seeking a dynamic and innovative educator to join our team as a Lower School Teacher Assistant beginning August 2025.
The Teacher Assistant supports the lead grade-level teacher in all aspects of teaching approximately 18 students in self-contained classrooms. In Kindergarten, the Teacher Assistant supports one classroom; in first grade, the Teacher Assistant rotates among five classrooms. Content areas include language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and character development. Each Lower School Teacher Assistant is an integral part of the grade-level team that plans and works closely together. Lower School special area teachers provide instruction in art, Bible, computer, library, music, Spanish, theater, and makerspace. This position reports to the Head of Lower School.
All Lower School faculty are supported by an experienced divisional team devoted to developing both students and faculty, including a counselor, learning specialists, reading specialists, instructional coaches, an assistant division head, a division head, Associate Head of School for Academics, and the Associate Head of School for Student Support.

Responsibilities:
- Support the lead teacher in either one Kindergarten classroom or five first grade classrooms
- Model and guide students in Christ-like values and character development
- Employ current pedagogies, including project-based learning and design thinking
- Deliver innovative curriculum that integrates technology intentionally and appropriately
- Embrace lifelong learning and a growth mindset for adults and students alike
- Participate collaboratively in grade-level, divisional, and all-school teams
- Develop and practice cultural competence in teaching and teamwork
- Communicate effectively with parents and colleagues, both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, energy, initiative, and self-reflection
- Motivate, engage, and differentiate to support all students
- Delight in teaching children in the elementary school years
Qualifications:
- A vibrant Christian faith and a desire to work in a Christian environment
- A bachelor's degree
- Teaching certification for the grade-level applying
- Two years’ full-time teaching or teaching assistant experience preferred
- Successful completion of background checks and verification
