Lieutenant Role
The Lieutenant is a senior officer who assists the Chief in administering the Department. This includes exercising authority and supervision as assigned by the Chief, Public Safety.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain awareness of all Security matters and actions of all tours;
- Supervise the investigation of incidents, communications, preparation and forwarding of written reports;
- Conduct investigations as directed by the Chief;
- Review security reports and consult with Sergeants and the Chief to determine priority locations relative to crime conditions;
- Study deployment of the Force, and make changes where appropriate for more effective coverage;
- Notify members of the Force through the Dispatcher of scheduled court appearances and other related notifications;
- Supervise Sergeants, Special Patrolmen/women (Peace Officers), Security Officers and Dispatchers at irregular intervals to ascertain job performance, inspect uniforms, equipment and general appearance of members of the Force;
- Represent the Chief, Public Safety at community meetings when designated; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Law Enforcement (Bachelor's Degree preferred);
- Minimum 4 years' experience in supervisory/leadership experience;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and
- Strong time management, organization, planning and customer service skills.
