TITLE: Special Education Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Hold or be eligible for certification in area of disability.
2. Other qualifications as may be deemed essential for successful performance in the position.
REPORTS TO: Director Pupil Personnel Services, or Designee
SUPERVISES: Aides/Assistants.
JOB GOAL: To provide special education services to students identified as requiring special education services based on criteria established by applicable Federal and State statutes and regulations.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the school program.
2. To develop, implement, modify and evaluate an appropriate Individualized Education Program with the students' teachers and parents .
3. To use informal or formal assessment procedures, such as, but not limited to, diagnostic achievement tests or classroom observations, to assist with the provision of appropriate services.
4. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
5. Schedules classes for remedial instruction.
6. Prepares progress reports and year-end evaluation, administering pre-tests and post-tests as necessary.
7. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
8. Works closely with other teachers to help the student maintain satisfactory classwork, homework and behavior.
9. Participates in conferences about educationally handicapped students.
10. Performs other such duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Director or designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and other terms and conditions of employment shall be governed by negotiated contract with extended service as approved by the School Board.
EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
