What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Design Engineer position at Rochester Sensors?
OVERVIEW
Design and develop products that meet our customer’s requirements through customization of existing product designs, or developing new product designs. Become a member of a cross-functional team creating new products with a mixture of mechanical and electronic components. The design engineer works through the design cycle to ensure time to market, product cost, total project cost, application critical to quality features, design for manufacturability, design for six sigma and overall long term product quality goals are met.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designs new products (end items and components) in accordance with project plans and schedules.
- Develops and maintains design requirement specifications for new products/components.
- Creates 3D models of new designs with the use of Solidworks for use in conceptual planning and marketing and for detailed design work supporting analysis, tooling, drawing documentation and Customer assembly model needs.
- Performs critical fit analysis and stress analysis to optimize designs prior to tooling.
- Produces drawings that are accurate and toleranced for mating parts fit and function.
- Performs Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) on all new end item designs, taking into account every related subassembly and component and ranking the failure modes to establish a priority system for design improvements.
- Completes design verifications and validations of new designs.
- Produces technical data sheets and instructions related to new product design support.
- Writes test reports as required to document verification and validation activities.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Minimum requirement B.S.M.E. with M.S. a plus.
- Fundamental knowledge of materials and compatibility with chemicals.
- Experience with data analysis using spreadsheets or similar tools.
- Experience with SolidWorks.
- Exposure/experience with PCB schematic and layout a plus.
- Proficient in MS Office/ Excel/ Word.
- Good reading/writing/verbal skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting design and application. failures and apply effective corrective actions.
- Effectively communicates/interacts w/others at all levels.
PREFERRED
- FEA Analysis (Solidworks Simulation)
- Experience working with plastic injection moldings
- Experience working with stack up tolerancing in assemblies
- Experience working with sensors ~ sensor testing
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Up to 10% travel may be required
