Position Summary and Job Duties
Perform a variety of general cleaning tasks to maintain patient rooms, offices, hallways and other assigned areas of the facility. Work also includes distributing clean linen to user departments and maintaining stock levels on nursing floors. Follows standard practices and procedures and complies with regulatory requirements.
65% - General cleaning tasks to maintain patient rooms, offices, hallways, and other assigned areas.
- Dusts furniture, woodwork, equipment and dust mops floors. Polishes and cleans fixtures in rooms and bathrooms.
- Operates mechanical floor cleaners, buffers, vacuums, snow blowers, shampooers and related environmental service equipment.
- Wet mops rooms, halls, etc., shampoos rugs and furniture.
- Cleans vents, fans fixtures, and tops of windows, door frames and other high areas using a ladder.
- Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials using specified bags and/or containers.
- Buffs, strips, waxes and polishes floors.
- Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required.
- Performs terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares room for new occupant; follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms.
- Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors and walls of bathrooms.
- Keeps work areas neat and orderly, cleans equipment and assists with other cleaning duties as assigned.
- Shovels snow at all exits and ramps.
- Makes supply packs for departments and puts linen stacks in carts for distribution. Takes supply requests and delivers them.
- Delivers linen to departments according to pre-established par levels and schedules.
- Distributes emergency supplies as needed.
- Keeps records of linen distribution by department; checks households linen supplies and lists linen usage by department.
- Attends all meetings as required.
- Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, and fire drills.
- Assists with evacuations when needed.

- Knowledge and ability to operate mechanical floor cleaners, buffers, vacuums, carpet shampooers, carts, heat machine compactors, dollies, ladders, snow removal and related equipment.
- Knowledge of various cleaning agents and/or chemical.
- Ability to use various cleaning hand tools and supplies.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform a variety of repetitive manual tasks, which require agility and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work with strong cleaning and disinfecting solutions.
- Ability to learn routine tasks quickly.
Job Requirements, Education, Training & Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year experience in institutional housekeeping.
