Position Summary and Job Duties
Entry level position that performs routine food service activities related to the preparation and set-up for the serving of food to residents.
45% - Perform a variety of routine tasks in the kitchen, tray line, and dining room according to standard practices and procedures.
- Assist in preparing foods for regular or modified diets as directed.
- Prepare dining room and counter for serving. Stock with dishes and tableware.
- Clean counters and tables in dining room, arrange and replenish items as needed.
- Assist Cooks and other Food Service Workers.
- Sets up and serves resident trays in accordance with established schedules and procedures.
- Serve food using established portion control methods.
- Strip carts and trays, sort and rinse dishes and silverware, load, operate an unload dishwasher, stack or store washed items as required.
- Clean dish washing machines, add detergent, rinse dry, change water, clean and sanitize.
- Prepare coffee and urns for food service. Transport food carts to neighborhood kitchens. Clean carts on return to kitchen area.
- Wash pots and pans and perform heavy cleaning duties; scrape, scour, rinse pots, utensils and equipment.
- Collect, process and dispose of trash, cans, bottles and similar debris and transport to disposal areas.
- Collect and process dirty linens.
- Perform other general routine cleaning duties and non-routine duties as directed.
- Assist in care and maintenance of department work area, equipment and supplies. Report defective equipment, unattractive/questionable food, defective supplies, etc. to supervisor.
- Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
- Maintain required records, statistics (e.g. temperature logs).
- Participate in fire drills, educational programs, and inservice meetings. Attend meetings as required.
- May participate in disaster evacuations when circumstances exists.

Job Requirements, Education, Training & Experience
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Previous experience in a food service setting.
Essential Job Functions (physical elements, equipment and working conditions)
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, etc.
- Works beyond normal duty hours, on weekends, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
- Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day.
- Is subject to sudden temperature changes when entering refrigerator.
- Is exposed to heat/cold temperatures in kitchen/storage area.
- May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the AIDS and hepatitis B viruses.
- Works in well-lighted/ventilated areas. Atmosphere is somewhat warm due to cooking.
