To perform skilled maintenance work and manual labor at at county park locations. Work to include use of motorized equipment and motor vehicles in the maintenance and repair of assigned parks and facilities. This may include operating a variety of vehicles, on and off road equipment, and various hand and power tools. Must have experience in several different disciplines including HVAC, plumbing, electrical and grounds maintenance. 

50% Troubleshoot, maintain and repair parks and facilities. 
-Repairs and maintains park areas, facilities, and trails by mowing, removing brush, tree limbs and rubbish, burning, mulching, seeding, watering, application of various pesticides.
-Building and facility care and maintenance, cleaning, and sanitizing of restrooms, shelters, and buildings, vandalism repair and removal of graffiti and clean up.  
-Operates and maintains various vehicles and machinery.
-Constructs and repairs picnic tables and signs to include but not limited to painting, staining, installation, storage, maintenance, and other items. 
-Perform various manual tasks such as painting, replacing faulty plumbing parts, repair and replace simple electrical outlets, fixtures, lights, and related work. 
-Snow removal and clean up in our county parks system and assisting in other division requests as needed. 

35% Repair and maintain various building structures and equipment system

-Inspect, maintain, repair building sand structures in the Parks Department.  Including but not limited to painting, flooring, drywall and minor structural repairs.
-Able to troubleshoot, perform maintenance and minor repairs on various HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems and equipment associated with parks properties.  

5% Keep accurate records of duties performed and repairs done. 

-Must keep accurate notes/logbook of all repairs done to buildings and equipment for department records.  Including what the issue was, when it happened, and what was used or done to fix the problem.  

5% Keep current with all administrative procedures and safety related issues. 
 
-Completely fill out and hand in time sheets on time and keep an accurate logbook.
 
-Attend all required safety relate trainings and report incidents in a timely manner.
 
-Maintain accurate inventories of materials used in the performance of duties, including, but    
      not limited to:  repair parts; marking and signing accessories; materials such as gravel, 
      mulch, bathroom needs and brochures. 

5% Perform other duties as assigned.

o Working knowledge and experience in general maintenance work as it applies to a parks environment. 
o Working knowledge and experience in building maintenance, troubleshooting and repair. 
o Knowledge of the types and uses of common hand tools, materials, and standard equipment used in general maintenance, construction, and repair. 
o Ability to operate light to medium construction and maintenance equipment; and snow removal equipment. 
o Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. 
o Ability to perform duties in a safe manner.
o Ability to keep accurate records.
 

Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school or equivalent experience sufficient to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position. 


Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (Class A) when hired or within the first 6 months of employment and a working telephone. Must possess and maintain a current unrestricted (not due to corrective lenses) driver's license and auto insurance pursuant to the Rock County Administrative Policy and Procedure Policy 5.02 and 5.27.


Positions in the job class this position is assigned to are subject to random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Department of Transportation rules and regulations.  Testing negative on required tests is a condition of employment.


Three years working knowledge or experience in HVAC maintenance, electrical and pluming or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to do the job. 

Physical Elements:

Lift, push, pull:   Must be able to: 
 
-   lift and carry up to 80 lbs.  (4 x 6 sign post with a partner or bags of material)
-   shovel gravel from truck box to wheel barrow
-   lift snow fence rolls, push and roll it up to 50 feet and install 7' metal posts using a post pounder
-   shovel/push snow by hand 
-   lift signs and hold in place, up to 8-foot high
-   ride or push mowers for extended periods of time
 
Bending, squatting, kneeling:  Must be able to:
 
-   bend, squat, kneel in order to perform maintenance activities
 
Climbing, overhead work:  Must be able to:
 
-    climb ladder and get into truck dump box to clean it out
-    enter and exit truck cab by stepping onto a step 24 inches from the ground
-    work for a sustained period of time on ladders to cut tree branches, repair signs and perform truck
     maintenance
 
Equipment Use:
 
-    a variety of vehicles and equipment such as single, multiple axle and four wheel drive trucks, tractor 
     mowers, small to medium sized end loaders, asphalt rollers, tractor backhoes, etc.
-    lift and operate portable power tools such as chain saws, cut off saws, jack hammers (60 lbs) rotary
     hammer drills and various other types of maintenance and construction equipment.

Working conditions:
 
-    Duties are performed mainly outside involving exposure to all weather conditions.   Since employees in 
     this position operate equipment, they are exposed to construction hazards such as: traffic, dust and dirt, and 
     noise.  During the use of equipment, the employees are subject to potentially hazardous substances such as: 
     diesel fuel, gasoline, lubricants, and solvents.  Employees may be required to report for work at any time to 
     work in emergency conditions such as storms or flooding.
