SUMMARY: Works proactively under general guidance of the Chief County Assessor and Chief Deputy. A primary function(s) of this position includes, but is not limited to specialized office work specific to the area of assignment. The employee receives assignments from the supervisor, who defines objectives, priorities and deadlines and assists the employee with unusual situations that do not have clear precedents.
ESEENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Must be capable of regular and predictable attendance at a specified location in order to perform assigned tasks.
- Answers telephone inquiries regarding general office activities and assessment information.
- Prepare and distribute documents, reports, correspondence and vouchers for related materials; proofreads; prints, distributes and files materials.
- Review and edit recorded documents for the proper course of action.
- Edit sales declarations and analyzes the proper course of action for developing recommendations to assessment officials.
- Reading legal descriptions, deeds, transfer declarations, property record cards, and the use of GIS maps.
- Maintains record keeping system(s), and enters relevant information into computer based information system(s).

Knowledge of:
- General knowledge of local, State, and Federal laws and regulations, including Illinois Property Tax Code
- General knowledge of Assessment software systems and computer applications.
- Required formatting guidelines for the preparation of official documents and resolutions.
- Legal and administrative terminology and procedures.
Skills:
· Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
· Must be able to communicate with the public and other employees in a professional manner, and obtain and/or convey necessary information in a tactful and diplomatic manner under difficult conditions.
· Possess a moderate level of computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel, and related property assessment systems.
· Must be able to prepare clear and concise reports that assist in the timely completion of the property tax cycle.
· Critical thinking using logic and analysis to evaluate options to various situations, including the absorption and understanding of a variety of information regarding the utilization of assessment techniques and requirements. .
· Must be able to make personal adjustments as necessitated by work assignments, job pressures, and demands
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma, GED or other certificate of competency.
- Ability to obtain a Certified Illinois Assessing Officials certificate from the Illinois Property Assessment Institute within two (2) years of hire.
Experience:
- Requires at least three (3) years of specialized office experience and principals of real estate assessments and/or legal descriptions, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
