What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School Hall Monitor position at Rock Island/Milan School District #41?
- Hall Monitors will be required to work Security at evening events at their assigned building(s) and at the High School.
- A rotating event schedule will be put in place to ensure maximum coverage for all events.
- Monitors to ensure safety and discipline are maintained in all areas inside and outside of the school building, including the Temporary Education Center
- Prohibits students from loitering in hallways and other areas in the building. Ensures that students have the proper authorization when outside the classroom during class hours.
- Is knowledgeable of school rules and corrects any student violating the rules.
- Provides guidance, communicates high expectations, and actively participate in student progress.
- Promotes the proper use and care of school property.
- Controls student access to lockers and restrooms.
- Watch for student behavior that may indicate a problem (e.g., profanity, teasing, bullying, distress, etc.). Intervenes and/or reports concerns to an administrator.
- Reports students who do not comply with corrections to an administrator.
- Compiles reports regarding incidents or actions taken or recommendations for disruptions.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding student information.
- Knowledge of the principles of disciplinary regulations for public schools.
- Knowledge of behavioral intervention techniques.
- Ability to deal and communicate diplomatically with individuals.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of individuals.

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the School Principal, the Hall Monitor ensures safety in the buildings and provides general supervision and monitors students in the hallways, cafeteria, classrooms, and other areas in the school building(s). In addition, the Hall Monitor responds to emergencies, intervenes in personal conflicts, and works with all staff members and students to promote a positive school culture and encourage appropriate school conduct and behavior.
