Supervision Exercised : Functional supervision may be exercised over student workers.
Job Summary
Teach assigned classes and laboratory sections and perform related activities to classroom instruction. This position is expected to teach and develop a range of courses in physical geography particularly for general education, including areas such as geographical information system, climate change and other areas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Additional related duties may be assigned.
- Plan course content and assign appropriate course work.
- Select appropriate texts and teaching materials.
- Revise course outlines, objectives, and catalog information as needed.
- Meet classes at assigned times.
- Instruct students in the proper use of lab equipment and computer technology where appropriate.
- Ensure that equipment and / or labs are properly maintained where appropriate.
- Maintain supply and equipment inventory where appropriate.
- Participate in formative and summative assessment of student learning.
- Actively participate in course and program assessment in the physical sciences.
- Maintain student records, evaluate student progress and assign grades.
- Maintain office hours convenient for students.
- Prepare course / class reports as required.
- Submit budget requests and written narrative when appropriate.
- Attend required meetings (faculty, division, in-service training, etc.)
- Assist in short-term and long-term planning.
- Participate in division, college, advisory committees, and community activities.
- Demonstrate lifelong learning through the reading of latest research and journal articles.
- Attendance and participation in conferences related to teaching area and membership in appropriate professional organizations is recommended.
- Adhere to Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and any policies or laws that govern higher education at Rock Valley College.
- Assist in student program advisement.
- Recruit students when appropriate.
- Assist in placement of graduates when appropriate.
