Job Summary
Assist the Rock Valley College community in the development, education, awareness and implementation of programs designed to support underrepresented and underserved student populations. Provide leadership for the management of international and undocumented students attending Rock Valley College. Oversee all case management and monitoring of international students enrolled at Rock Valley College in accordance to visa compliance. Serve as the primary designated school official for Federal SEVIS reporting system and state reporting. Maintain compliance with United States Citizens Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations. Provides education, awareness and support to a growing number of underrepresented and underserved student populations at RVC.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following. Related duties may be assigned.
- Work with students in the development of educational goals and the implementation of plans to meet those goals, including academic and career advising
- Provide case management for international students to help complete educational goals, including academic advising
- Provide support resources and guidance for Undocumented students
- Advise International students on situations that pertain to their continued eligibility status
- Be accessible 24/7 for international students traveling between Rockford and their home countries
- Assist with the development of the departmental mission, goals, objective, and effective support programs and initiatives. Work with recruitment to assist in the development a strategic plan to support international recruitment initiatives
- Work with support staff, and assist in the training of student worker(s) to support the Intercultural Student Services Office
- Create and maintain procedures manual for International Student Support
- Maintain knowledge of Colleague system & SEVIS regulations, a federal Student and Exchange Visitor Information System
- Using the Colleague System to input data as applicable, including, but not limited to applications, registrations, transcripts, updated demographics and all foreign student data
- Maintain records and files necessary for preparing both external and internal reports on international and undocumented student activity
- Track student progress to ensure continuing compliance with USCIS regulations. Use the SEVIS system to input compliance with USCIS regulations
- Prepare reports for SEVIS and for international offices (i.e., Enrollment Services). Prepare and present reports related to enrollment, persistence, retention, and completion of programs and initiatives sponsored and lead by the ISS department.
- Serve as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) authorized by the Department of Homeland Security and as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) authorized by the United States Department of State to review, issue and sign immigration documents
- Participate in various local, state, and national committees as appropriate
- Communicate, advocate and lead on issues related to International Education, Study Abroad, and exchanges across campus and to outside constituents such as RVC partner institutions and professional organizations
- Plan and present immigration programming and workshops for students, campus staff, and other professional staff members as needed.
- Support programs and services that lead to the retention and success of all underrepresented student populations and make recommendations for college initiatives and their justifications for development and/or modification
- Provide support and help develop an annual calendar of Intercultural Programming, celebrating cultural belonging and showcasing international educational experiences
- Serve as an advisor to the International student organization; Multi-Cultural Club
- Collaborate with Student Life, First Year Experience, Advising, and Enrollment for the development and implementation of educational programs and services such as: International Student Orientation, ACIREMA, International Week, International Showcase, Brother to Brother Conference and Sister to Sister Conference
- Assist and be a part of diversity programming, such as Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History and Culture Committee, Women’s History Month and LGBTQAI planning. Lead Multi-Cultural club
- Support college initiatives and efforts to recruit and retain students from diverse student populations including underrepresented, first generation and low-income student populations. Collaborate and partner with office of Vice President of Cultural Excellence and the Office of Campus Culture and Belonging as needed and appropriate.
- Stay apprised of current policies, legal and ethics issues in higher education
- Attend NAFSA Regional and Annual conference to remain knowledgeable of all the new rules, regulations and updates concerning F-1 international students.
- Accompany students to local, regional, and national events as college liaison.
- Monitor and Update International and ISS webpages, presentations, brochures and forms used by the office
- Monitor Departmental Budgets
- Serve on college committees that support intercultural activities, including PAIC (Promoting an Inclusive Community) as directed by supervisor.
- Regular attendance is expected.
- Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- United States citizenship or lawful permanent residence as required by the federal regulation for certification as Primary Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer.
- Knowledge and experience working with SEVIS, USCIS/DOS regulations and immigration law required.
- Experience with event planning and organization.
- Must be computer literate; Microsoft Office, Excel, and data entry required.
- Master’s degree preferred
- Previous international educational experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one discussions, as well as in small and large group presentations.
- Bilingual
- Proven ability to manage interruptions and effectively prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong ability to collaborate as part of a team while also thriving in independent work settings.
- Ability to engage and work effectively with diverse student populations.
- Ability to investigate and analyze information to make decisions and interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
