    Job Summary
    We are searching for qualified applicants to join the Rock Valley College Police Department for the position of Police Officer. You will join a team promoting a safe environment for the campus; perform public relations with students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Maintain order at campus and satellite facilities, in line with College policies, and State and Federal Laws.
    The established base salary for new hires will be $57,000. New full-time officers with at least three years of full-time police service without a break in service greater than two years, shall be hired at a starting salary, which will not exceed the lowest paid existing lateral transfer. These placements are for wages only and not for seniority, or any other accrued benefits. Base pay will increase for existing FOP members on the following scale July 1st 2025 3.75%, July 1st 2026 3.25%

    In addition to the above percent increases existing FOP members will receive the following Longevity bonuses (not added to base pay) July 1st 2025 $1,250, July 1st 2026 $750. Longevity will be paid in the second pay period of each new fiscal year.

    • Uniforms and duty gear provided at time of hire along with paid uniform cleaning.
    • $1000 uniform allowance every fiscal year after hire.
    • Department issued cell phone for use when on duty.

    Some of the essential functions for this role include:
    1. Respond to calls for service and provide emergency and non-emergency assistance.
    2. Protect personnel and property within the campus boundaries, including the surrounding community.
    3. Conduct investigations as required.
    4. Respond to medical emergencies and provide care as needed.
    5. Enforce local, state, and college criminal, traffic, and parking statutes and regulations.
    6. Actively patrol grounds and buildings and make recommendations to improve security and safety.
    7. Perform felony and misdemeanor arrests, as necessary.

    Requirements for Currently Certified or Previously Certified Officer:
    1. High School diploma.
    2. U.S. Citizen.
    3. Current certification as an Illinois Law Enforcement officer is required or the ability to be recertified by Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board; if previously attended an Illinois state certified police academy or the ability to be certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board; if attended an out of state certified police academy.
    4. Valid F.O.I.D. Card or the ability to attain one.
    5. Must be 21 years of age upon date of hire.
    6. Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license or be able to obtain once if moving from another state.
    7. Successful completion of written testing, oral interview, background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screen and medical exam are necessary.
    8. No record of felony convictions or a crime involving moral turpitude or misdemeanor(s) that would prohibit the ability to obtain Illinois State Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board.
    9. Have no disqualifying Professional Misconduct reports through ITLESB.
    10.Must be IL resident or willing to move to IL upon hire.

    Requirements for Police Recruit Officer:
    1. High School Diploma.
    2. U.S. Citizen.
    3. Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license or be able to obtain one if moving from another state.
    4. Valid F.O.I.D. Card or the ability to obtain one.
    5. Candidates are required to have an uncorrected vision of minimum 20/40 with both eyes open and an aided corrected vision of 20/20 as well not being color blind.
    6. Proof of successful completion of a valid Police Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) Test submitted with application. Test cards will be accepted from any authorized POWER Test administrator.
    7. Successful completion of written testing, oral interview, background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screen and medical exam are necessary.
    8. No record of felony convictions or a crime involving moral turpitude or misdemeanor(s) that would prohibit the ability to obtain Illinois State Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board.
    9. Must be IL resident or willing to move to IL upon hire.

    The police officer recruit position requires the attendance and successful completion of a certified State of Illinois Police Academy selected by the College and passing the state police exam.
