The Operations Manager at The Community Table is a part-time position (approximately 25 hours per week) responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our "restaurant without a cash register." This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth functioning of our mission to connect those at risk of hunger with those able and willing to assist.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Management:
- Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for various roles including meal preparation, serving, and clean-up
- Create and maintain volunteer schedules
- Ensure volunteers have a positive and rewarding experience
Chef Rotation and Meal Planning:
- Coordinate and maintain the chef/caterer and menu rotation schedule
- Order meal and food service supplies
- Ensure adherence to food safety standards and dietary requirements
Kitchen Management:
- Oversee kitchen operations and maintain inventory of supplies
- Monitor kitchen equipment and communicate maintenance issues
- Implement and maintain food safety and sanitation protocols
Communication and Administration:
- Monitor and respond to inquiries via email and phone
- Maintain accurate records of operations and volunteer activities
- Update and maintain the policy and procedure manual
- Assist Board of Directors in fulfilling the mission and vision
Community Outreach and Partnerships:
- Coordinate with RARA (Rockbridge Area Relief Association) and other local organizations
- Liaise with local governments, social service organizations, and the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank
- Represent Community Table at relevant community events and meetings
Financial Management:
- Assist in budget planning and monitoring
- Track expenses related to meal supplies and kitchen operations
- Support fundraising efforts and grant applications as needed
Qualifications
- Experience in food service management or non-profit operations preferred
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
- Passion for community service and addressing food insecurity
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office Suite required
- ServSafe manager certification or willingness to obtain
Working Conditions
- Work is performed remotely and at the primary work location at the RARA building in Lexington, with occasional travel to Fairfield Presbyterian Church
- Some physical demands, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 25 pounds
- Fast-paced environment requiring multitasking and adaptability
