Rockbridge Regional Jail offers extensive training opportunities through our local police academy and other training resources throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Essential Job Functions:
Duties include supervision of inmates in their daily activity and housing, processing offenders in and out of the facility, conducting cell checks, cell searches and inspections along with other assigned duties in accordance to jail policy and procedure in compliance with the Virginia Department of Corrections. Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled environment.

Requirement and Experience:
High School Degree or Equivalent, must pass a background investigation, pre-employment drug screen and physical exam. Prior experience in Criminal Justice preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Some knowledge of practices for modern penology as related to the supervision and care of persons under institutional restraint; general knowledge of the security rules, regulations, and policy procedures of Rockbridge Regional Jail; ability to enforce institutional rules firmly and fairly; ability to detect potential behavior problems of inmates; ability to detect the early symptoms of common health problems; ability to carry out oral and written directions accurately; ability to supervise the activities of large groups of inmates, and the ability to prepare records and reports.
