Summary/Objective
The CNC Operator I is responsible for operating and maintaining CNC machinery, such as Mazaks, Doosans, INDEX, or Nakamuras. This role focuses on developing proficiency in operating these machines while adhering to safety protocols and quality standards. The CNC Operator I ensures the smooth operation of equipment, maintaining product quality and assisting with basic machine maintenance. This role may report indirectly to a Production Lead, with a direct reporting relationship to the Production Supervisor.
Essential Functions

- Perform machine setup for CNC equipment, following setup sheets and loading appropriate dies and tooling into machinery.
- Assist CNC Technicians and Operators with machine setup, calibration, and changeovers for different production runs, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.
- Support in changing inserts, tooling, and other necessary adjustments within CNC machinery as part of regular operations.
- Operate CNC machinery to produce parts according to specifications, ensuring tolerances are met throughout the process.
- Inspect products during the production process using precision tools such as calipers and micrometers.
- Document daily production activities, including machine performance, part quality, and material usage in ERP systems.
- Assist with basic machine maintenance and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues to minimize downtime.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Perform quality assurance checks to ensure products meet company and customer specifications.
- Flex across various departments as needed to support business demands.
- Any/all other duties as assigned.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials and product up to 50 pounds and seldom lifting to 75lbs. Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle and/or adjust equipment. Moderate reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping, and grasping. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to safety glasses, and steel toed work boots or shoes.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, 1st shift position with a typical schedule of Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM (8 hours/day). Occasional overtime, evening, and weekend work may be required to meet business needs.
Compensation
Our current hiring pay range for this position is $19-$23.75. This hiring pay range is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and, in some instances, may include education, work experience, knowledge, skills and certifications.
In addition to this base pay, Rockford Ball Screw employees are eligible for a bonus. Depending on your position you may be categorized into different tiers in the quarterly or annual bonus plan. Currently, this position is classified as a Quarterly Bonus within the Individual Contributor tier.

Requirements:Required Education and Experience
- Must be 18 years or older.
- High School Diploma/GED equivalent or significant relevant work experience.
- 1-3 years of experience operating CNC machinery.
- Capable of using measuring instruments, i.e. micrometer, calipers, gages, etc.
- Capable of using all required hand tools, i.e drills, screwdrivers, impacts, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints & part schematics.
- Ability to read/write, perform basic arithmetic, and follow verbal and written instructions.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Experience operating both single-axis and multi-axis CNC machinery, as well as single-turret and multi-turret systems, including Mazaks, Doosans, INDEX, and Nakamuras, is preferred.
