What are the responsibilities and job description for the ICJIA Maintenance Apprentice position at ROCKFORD PARK DISTRICT?
Operational Excellence

Attend all required training sessions, including maintenance, safety, violence prevention, and leadership development.

Support Youth Sports programs, special events, and rentals by setting up and tearing down equipment, tents, bleachers, and garbage cans.

Receive and complete daily work orders based on priority and urgency.
-
Conduct routine safety checks on buildings, grounds, and equipment, filing safety reports as needed.

Perform general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, window cleaning, restroom sanitation, carpet care, trash removal, and snow removal.

Assist with minor equipment, machinery, and vehicle repairs following Park District maintenance procedures.

Carry out routine maintenance tasks such as painting, building repairs, and custodial work in bathrooms, classrooms, offices, playgrounds, storage units, and scoreboards.

Support field and facility maintenance by mowing grass, trimming trees, clearing brush, and landscaping.

Assist in maintaining and cleaning RPS and Park District playgrounds, stadium sites, and athletic fields.

Help with landscape upkeep around Rockford Public Schools buildings, including bush trimming and general groundskeeping.

Operate tools and equipment such as snow blowers, leaf blowers, drills, and other hand tools safely and effectively.

Complete preventative maintenance tasks and building inspection checklists.

Provide general assistance to the Rockford Public Schools and Park District Grounds Team as needed.
- Perform seasonal tasks such as leaf clean-up and snow removal.

Attend weekly staff meetings and training sessions as scheduled.

As an apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience in general maintenance at Rockford Park District facilities and Rockford Public Schools. You will learn preventative maintenance, basic landscaping, turf care, cleaning procedures, equipment troubleshooting, and repairs. Additionally, you will be introduced to careers in the trades, including participation in hands-on construction activities and learning about apprenticeship pathways with the Northwestern Illinois Building & Construction Trades Council.
