What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician 3 – Foresty position at ROCKFORD PARK DISTRICT?
Assists the Supervisor in Forestry with tree removals, tree planting and maintenance, forestry equipment maintenance and repairs. Additional duties include but are not limited to; supervising designated staff, operating all equipment related to the Forestry Team and establishing and maintaining both internal and external relationships.
Inspection/Maintenance
- Performs frequent routine safety checks on buildings, grounds, files safety reports as necessary.
- Performs maintenance duties to the buildings, grounds, and equipment to required specifications for safety and appearance.
- Performs technical preventive maintenance and minor repairs to equipment, machinery, and vehicles as assigned, according to equipment manufacturer’s specifications and Park District general maintenance and repair procedures.
- Performs cleaning of building, floors, windows, restrooms, trash removal, grounds, sidewalks, and trash pick-up.
- Performs simple preventive maintenance to equipment.
- Performs cleaning of building, floors, windows, restrooms, carpets, trash removal, grounds, sidewalks, and trash pick-up
- Performs snow removal duties including plowing, shoveling and salting and leading a sidewalk crew.
- Assists other teams within the Parks Department and District as needed.
Operational Excellence
- Ensures that all work performed is conducted in a safe and timely manner adhering to standards of safety and effective equipment utilization.
- Ensures and maintains safe tree felling work zone area at all times
- Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies according to regulations for proper maintenance.
- Effectively and safely operates chain saws, string trimmers, mowing equipment and other hand tools as required to get the job done.
- Effectively and safely operates Park District equipment including, dump trucks, vehicles, Bobcat loaders and attachments, wood chipper and tractors as required.
- Receives and completes daily work orders establishing priorities based on the nature and urgency of the request.
- Oversees the planning, execution, and staffing of various projects with assistance and direction from Maintenance Supervisor and/or Parks Manager
- Assists with the training, supervision, and discipline of seasonal & part-time employees
- Assists with time, attendance, and tracking of seasonal & part-time employee hours
- Assists in preparation of annual budget and operating plan. Receive and account for invoices.
- Assists in developing and annually updating the general maintenance procedural manual.

Compliance

High School Diploma and 1 plus years of technical or college level courses in related field and 3 to 5 years of experience in related field.

- Must have 3-5 years minimum experience in tree felling, chipper and bobcat operation
- Must have 3-5 years minimum experience in chainsaw operation, safety and maintenance
- Must have knowledge of the city
- Knowledge and ability to solve problems
- Must be aware of surroundings and safety needs for events
- Safely and effectively operates Bobcat loaders, articulating loader, backhoe, wood chipper, stump grinder, forestry mower and related equipment.
- Must have experience and ability to trailer and haul tractors and equipment
- Valid Illinois Class ‘C’ Driver’s License or equivalent (CDL preferred)
- IL Pesticide Operator’s license
- Working knowledge of parks, amenities, and locations
- Have great communication skills oral, written, and interpersonal
- Must have excellent customer service skills
- Available to work nights and weekends
