Rockhurst University is seeking a motivated, visionary, and dedicated higher education professional to fill the position of Assistant Director of Residence Life. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Development, this position supervises the overall operation of the Residence Life program including organizational and event planning, staff and community development, and management of specific area-related facilities and budget lines. This position collaborates with the Associate Vice President, Residence Life colleagues, and other University administrators to promote the engagement, belonging, and success of students while preventing and managing student crisis situations. This position will coordinate closely with the Residence Life team in the overall development of the residential program through intentional, creative, professional, and inspirational leadership.
Primary duties of the position include the following:
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and facilitate all departmental recruitment, selection, training, and development of the Resident Directors/Area Coordinator and Resident Assistants. This includes being the instructor and facilitator of the RA academic class.
- Oversee the retention and success of residential students, the first-year experience of residents, and overall resident satisfaction.
- Spearhead retention efforts of residential students while serving as a member of Student Success Network team and collaborating with the Retention Committee.
- Provide on-call services in a rotation with other staff, and assist in the response to emergencies and crises.
- Participate and contribute to other departmental and University events and activities; assume other duties as assigned.
Requirements for this position:
- Master’s degree in Counseling, College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or a related field of student development.
- Minimum of two years of experience in Residence Life or a related field while supervising at least graduate professionals (full-time preferred).
- Experience in major event as well as time-extended program planning and management.
- Experience in designing, coordinating, and implementing educational programs.
- Experience in student leadership development and advising students.
- Supervisory experience with demonstrated staff management and leadership skills.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Ability to work periodic evening, overnight and weekend hours and to travel for occasional conferences and recruitment trips.
- Ability to manage on-call responsibilities.
