Rockhurst University is seeking applications for our Nursing and Health Sciences Advising Director. The NHS Advising Director is responsible for advising assigned students in the School of Health Sciences and Nursing, ensuring graduate student success, and oversight of course schedules within the Saint Luke’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The person in this position will work collaboratively with the Dean, Associate Deans, Senior Director of Student Success, Advisors, Academic Affairs, Registrar, Enrollment Management, Student Success and Retention, and Student Life to ensure the highest quality of services are provided to all students, with particular attention to those in graduate, RN to BSN, and non-degree seeking programs for CNHS (Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology).
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervising the nursing advising team and advising a portion of the nursing students.
- Serve as primary advisor for all SLP students on the satellite campuses.
- Assign faculty advisors to students.
- Create curricular plans, maintain student academic files, and track progression to graduation.
- Collaborate with the Chairs, program directors/coordinator, and Associate Deans regarding schedule planning to include the number of sections required per term and recommend an optimal balance of courses for degree completion.
- Meets with assigned students from Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology (including Rockhurst students taking classes in Omaha, Denver & Pheonix) to provide information and guidance on academic-related issues, such as admissions processes, course planning, and registration, transfer credit evaluation/substitution, tracking graduate school progression, and graduation requirements and exceptions.
- Assist in curricular updates and development of new or revised programs.
- Some travel, evenings, and weekends may be required.
Position Requirements
- 5 years of experience in higher education. Demonstrated experience in case managing, advising, or student success efforts.
- Master’s degree required; a terminal degree or Ph.D. in a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency in using educational and management software/tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to build and sustain effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
- Able to establish and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with students, faculty, and staff, to work as a valuable team player, and to function independently while managing and prioritizing multiple job assignments.
- Proven problem-solving skills and conflict-resolution experience.
Preferred Requirements:
- Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, social work, psychology, counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, nursing, or a closely related field is preferred.
- Experience with assessment.
- Experience designing inclusive programming that responds to a diverse student population.
