Rocks Bio is seeking staff and associate-level biologists / field technicians for immediate on call work in the Southern California region. The on-call biologist will perform a variety of tasks dependent upon qualifications, such as assisting on focused species surveys (e.g., burrowing owl, Crotch’s bumble bee, desert tortoise, rare plants, etc.), general biological surveys, nesting bird surveys, mitigation land assessment, wildlife corridor monitoring, and biological monitoring. Office is located in San Diego; some work will be local, however a considerable portion of surveys will involve travel to San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- One to five years of experience as a field biologist in southern California (consulting preferred)
- Baseline knowledge of common and special-status flora and fauna of the region
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Experience with GIS software and GPS units / tablets and ability to use technology for data collection
- Ability to perform fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather and / or rugged terrain, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Solid writing skills
- Typical availability of at least 2-3 days per week (weekdays)
- Availability for overnight travel as-needed
