Description
The Traffic Control Inspector is responsible for overseeing road construction projects to ensure quality, safety, and compliance with project plans and regulations. This role involves inspecting construction activities to confirm they meet contract specifications and standards, maintaining accurate progress reports, and collaborating with engineers, contractors, and agency representatives such as CDOT and FHWA. Upholding safety and quality assurance protocols is essential, along with strong communication skills and attention to detail.
Requirements
- Serve as a traffic control inspector for transportation projects by monitoring traffic management plans, ensuring proper implementation of traffic control measures, and overseeing work zones to maintain safety and compliance with regulations during road, highway, and bridge construction.
- Review, inspect, test and/or measure the work of the contractors and consultants to ensure that work is performed in accordance with contract requirements.
- Recommend to the project engineer approval and payment for acceptable and completed work, or rejection of non-conforming work.
- Maintain accurate daily record of construction site activities and produce required reports on progress, safety, quality, schedule and budget status.
- Recommend project-related decisions based on assessment of construction performance and progress relative to contract requirements.
- Initiate communication of project-related details and concerns to the project engineer in a timely manner.
- Adhere to the requirements of RockSol’s internal Quality Management System (QMS).
- Maintain assigned equipment and vehicles according to company procedures.
- Other construction inspection assignments as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 3 years of traffic control inspection experience.
- Colorado Contractors Association Traffic Control Supervisor Certification.
- American Traffic Safety Services Association Certified Flagger Certification.
- Must possess a demonstrated ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and maintain attention to accuracy and detail.
- Must possess competent verbal and written communication skills.
- Obtain and maintain required certifications for position.
- Must meet internal requirements for operation of company vehicles throughout duration of employment and must maintain a valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
- Must be willing and able to travel to job sites, sometimes for extended periods. Job sites may be located throughout Colorado or in western U.S.
- Working knowledge of safety and labor laws and requirements, quality control and quality assurance principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous project management and/or inspection experience on DOT or FHWA road construction projects.
- Traffic control inspection experience on Interstate or major highway projects
- Current Professional Engineer license.
- Construction materials testing experience.
Work Environment
- Work locations include road construction sites and field offices with regular exposure to all types of weather conditions during field work.
- Willingness to work extended hours, nights, and weekends if necessary to comply with client requirements and/or to meet project deadlines.
- Loud noise levels at times (hearing protection provided).
- Must be able to routinely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Overnight travel may be required with this position.
Pay (based on education and experience)
- Construction Inspector I - $25 to $35 per hour.
- Construction Inspector II - $30 to $40 per hour.
