What are the responsibilities and job description for the Roof Bolter Operator RW position at Rockwell Mining?
Performs all duties and activities in a manner that conforms to site specific safety requirements, company policy, state and federal regulations.
1. Install roof bolts according to roof control plan. (See PA 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 19, 21, 22, 23, 26)
2. Maintain ventilation in accordance with the ventilation and dust control plan. (See PA 2, 3, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 21)
3. Tram the machine from workplace to workplace. (See PA 3, 4, 14, 19, 21, 22, 23, 26)
4. Examine the workplace and make safe in accordance with regulations. (See PA 2, 3, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 19, 21, 22, 23, 26)
5. Examination of machine at the start of the shift. Inspect power source, check cables for physical damage, check the oil level in the machine, check cleanliness, check guarding, make sure switches and levers are operating properly. (See PA 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, 21, 22)
6. Load bolt supplies and maintain bolter in safe operating condition. (See PA 1, 2, 3, 11, 13, 14, 16)
7. Make methane checks in accordance with regulations. (See PA 2, 3, 11, 12, 14, 19, 21, 22)
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
1. May assist in upkeep of machine by performing minor repairs; oiling, greasing, etc.
2. May operate scoop to aid in the supplying of roof bolt materials.
3. Do additional roof control work when adverse conditions exist; such as setting posts and building cribs.
4. Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Mining equipment operating experience, knowledge of safe, efficient roof bolting practices.
2. Knowledge of roof control, ventilation plans, and roof and rib conditions in the face areas.
3. Qualified to make methane checks in accordance with regulations.
4. Complete understanding of mining regulations and company policies.
5. Know the Safe Job Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, company safety policies, and applicable rules and regulations.
Working Environment/Physical Activities:
This position requires the operator to possess the dexterity (refer to Physical Abilities) to work and operate machinery and equipment in a coal seam height that varies. The operator must constantly be attentive to the changing geological conditions and surrounding environment.
