Rocky Hill Country Day is seeking a dynamic and experienced Athletic Director to lead and manage our comprehensive athletics program. The Athletic Director will provide strategic leadership to enhance the school’s athletic offerings, promote student development, and ensure the program aligns with the school’s mission and values. This individual will oversee all aspects of athletics, including staffing, budgeting, scheduling, and compliance, while fostering a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and academic balance.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Vision:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive athletic program that supports the school’s educational philosophy and strategic goals.
  • Establish and maintain a culture of inclusiveness, equity, and sportsmanship within all athletic programs.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to align athletic initiatives with broader institutional objectives.

Administrative Management

  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and evaluation of coaches and athletic staff.
  • Manage the department’s budget, ensuring effective resource allocation for equipment, facilities, and staffing.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement safety protocols and risk management procedures.
  • Coordinate athletic schedules, including practices, games, tournaments, and transportation.

Student-Athlete Development

  • Promote academic achievement, personal growth, and leadership development among student-athletes.
  • Establish and uphold eligibility standards for athletic participation in accordance with school and league policies.
  • Provide guidance to coaches in supporting student-athlete well-being and academic success.

Community Engagement And Communication

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the athletic department, parents, faculty, and the broader community.
  • Effectively communicate athletic achievements, events, and policies to stakeholders.
  • Foster relationships with local and regional sports organizations to enhance the school’s athletic profile.

Facilities And Equipment Management

  • Oversee the maintenance, safety, and effective use of athletic facilities and equipment.
  • Collaborate with the facilities team to plan for upgrades and improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in education, sports management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in athletic administration, coaching, or a related leadership role.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in athletics program management.
  • Proven experience in budget management and program development.

Preferred Skills And Attributes

  • Experience in an independent school setting.
  • Familiarity with league regulations and independent school athletic conference guidelines.
  • A commitment to fostering student achievement and character development through sports.
