POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Director, the Personal Trainer will conduct personal training sessions to the standards of the certification held, as well as the YMCAs mission and philosophy. This job description includes but is not limited to safely designing and implementing appropriate individual fitness programs for clients. In addition, personal trainers will educate, stimulate, motivate, and promote adherence to a healthy lifestyle.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Be committed to the mission and goals of the YMCA.
- Demonstrate leadership in an outgoing, friendly, assertive, professional, and mature manner.
- Promote fitness and wellness through personalized training programs for the specific individual.
- Educate participants on proper and safe exercise form. Execute equipment orientations.
- Design exercise programs for a variety of participants utilizing the fitness program by combining individual health and fitness goals with fitness assessment results.
- Demonstrate expertise in using pin machines, free-weights, plate-loaded equipment, and cardiovascular equipment to clients and educate participants on proper and safe exercise form.
- Maintain the safety of the participants, enforce all written polices, and monitor all weight room policies regarding safe and proper use of equipment.
- Keep up to date records and have clients initial by their session in the P.T book.
- Only train participants who have paid their fee through the YMCA and then been assigned to you.
- Ability to consistently work schedule appointments, attend staff meetings and training, maintain certifications, and clock in/out of department correctly.
- Follows YMCAs policies and procedures; maintain professional appearance. Wear staff shirt only when on the clock. No cell phone/music device usage.
- Respond to incident and illness. Perform routine First Aid and CPR. Ensure appropriate documentation is completed.
- Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned by director.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certifications required within 30 days of hire: American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid; the following training provided by the Y: Appropriate Touch; Child Sexual Abuse Prevention; Managing your Risk of Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens; Hazard Communication for Employees; Social Media & Digital Communications; Safe Lifting; Harassment Prevention; Preventing Member and Guest Slips, Trips, and Falls; Risk Management 101.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Current certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid.
- Must hold a current Personal Trainer Certification (or advanced certification) through one of the following: ACSM, ACE, NSCA, AFAA, NASM, NETA, IFTA.
- Two-year exercise science education, or related field, or a minimum of 2 years experience.
- Must be able to recognize participants who are in distress.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including some weekends and holidays.
- Ability to and at least one year experience developing positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
